He was the beloved husband and best friend of Leslie G. Mote; and devoted daddy to Mosby, Scarlett, Emmy, Josephine and Molly. He is also survived by his aunt Kip; cousins Harry (Cherl), Lisa, Laurie , Carlos, Trisha (Jerry), Rob (Micky), Nico, Nina, Michele (Phil), Alison, Emmy, Paul (Margaret), Ian; mother-in-law Pat; sister-in-law Michele (Mark); and other relatives.
Graduated from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD. Following an education at Montgomery County College, Tom began his professional photography career in the mid 1970s. He went on to become an outstanding news photographer at CNN in its early years. Among the many assignments in Tom's career, he was a member of the leading team covering the Gulf War in 1991. Later on, Tom expanded his career in the freelance news photography industry. He traveled the world acquiring images for all of us to enjoy. Tom earned the respect, admiration and love of hundreds of friends and colleagues. After an illustrious career in the news industry, Tom became deeply involved in various Asian cultures, later on embracing Buddhism. Tom's love of Asia led him to his more recent career and passion, becoming an expert and dealer in Asian antiques and artifacts. Tom was about to embark on a new photographic adventure when he died unexpectedly. Tom's gift was not his skill as a photographer or as an antique dealer, but rather his human spirit and kindness, which will remain in the hearts of all who were touched by his friendship.
A prayer service for Tom will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 29 at Wat Lao Buddhavong, 3043 Catlett Rd, Catlett, VA 20119. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tom's memory may be made to the Middleburg Humane Foundation, P.O. Box 1238, Middleburg, VA 20118.
