TIMOTHY KITCHEN Obituary

KITCHEN TIMOTHY CHARLES KITCHEN 6/12/1963 ~ 7/19/2018 Timothy Charles Kitchen, age 55, of Falls Church VA, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018, after a long, courageous battle against Lupus. Born in Marlboro MA, Tim was the youngest of four children and the only son of the late Helen (Mansfield) and Charles Grant Kitchen of Northborough MA. He attended Algonquin Regional High and Assabet Valley Regional Tech School, where he developed a love for horticulture and engineering. Advised by his sister, Mo, to "Go West, Young Man!" he attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1986 as a Safety Engineer and becoming a lifelong Cyclone. During his professional years, Tim worked as a Risk and Safety Engineer for AMF Machinery and NASA. His meticulous nature and love of process served him well. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, military and family history. Tim was an avid hockey fan from years traveling with the Reycroft hockey dynasty. He followed NCAA powerhouses Boston College and University of Minnesota, and celebrated the Washington Capitals' 2018 Stanley Cup victory with best friend Brian Oliger. Tim was the much loved significant other to Tracy Malone Christiansen and a father figure to Charles E Christiansen. He is also survived by sisters Sara Ellen "Sally" Kitchen of Philadelphia, PA; Marilynn "Mo" Reycroft and husband Lou of Ithaca NY; and Charlene Schrom and husband Art of Amherst NH. Tim was a very proud uncle to his very talented nieces and nephews Louis Reycroft, Aynsley Reycroft Schopfer, Emily Reycroft, Julia Devine, Leon Benn, Rachel Meyer and Elizabeth Leighton. A memorial service will be held in June 2019 near Lake Webster MA, a favorite fishing spot of Tim and his father. To honor Tim's advocacy for education, a Memorial Fund Scholarship has been created at Iowa State in the name of Timothy C Kitchen '86. Donations may be directed via Eric Bentzinger, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, ericb@foundation.iastate.edu

I will be forever grateful to Tim for bringing so much joy and laughter into your life and Charlie's. I think the loves we find later in life are sometimes the deepest and sweetest, and I'm so glad you shared that.

Tim was such a joy and I am so thankful to have him in my family. My goal used to be to get him to laugh--especially when he was very serious--and thankfully, he humored me and tolerated my goofiness.
