It has been 20 years since Travis passed away in combat in Afghanistan. I still have a flag flown at the very spot he lost his life. I would like to get in touch with family to pass the flag to them if anyone can assist. I have held onto this flag and have tried to reach out with no success. If anyone can assist I would be grateful.

My son served with yours. He called from Afghanistan to have me pray for Travis. I continue to do so and want you to know your son will never be forgotten.

I have an American flag to give to the family of Travis Nixon. I had an American flag flow on the exact spot where Travis past away in 2005. I was the Deputy Chief of Base for Bagram Airbase at the time. Upon my return from Afghanistan in 2009, I was left homeless during the Great Recession for 5 years. I lost everything, but I held onto this flag and one other that I seek to return to the family. My number is 954-609-7189.

October 29, 2008
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Travis, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I wish you knew how many people who've never met Travis know what an outstanding young man he was. My husband & I "adopted" a Soldier in Afghanistan during your son's deployment. He was the medic. This kid never asked us to send anything so I'll never forget the day he asked if I would send him copies of any newspaper articles about Travis. It was truly an honor to do so. Upon his return to the US, we had the chance to meet him in person & we gave him the original articles we had obtained. We’ve remained in contact with the Soldier & I can guarantee you neither he nor Marty or I will ever forget Travis. I wear a hero bracelet bearing Travis’ name as a tribute to his memory & it hasn’t been off my wrist since I first put it on. Each time someone asks me about the bracelet I take that opportunity to educate one more person about your incredible son and his ultimate sacrifice. Travis IS an American hero!! God bless you… HOOAH!

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To the family and friends
I have only just begun this journey and may not have known your loved one personally.
I extend to you my deepest condolences. No words will ever express the grief those close to this lost treasure are feeling. I can only say that I can share this grief as I too lost a loved one July 8, 2006. I will continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers and especially the family and friends of our lost hero’s. I only hope the memories will carry us through. I will continue pray that you also will believe and know that our heavenly father will not give us more than we can handle.
As always I read (and cry) through the memorials of our lost hero’s, So many people have already expressed the things I would also say. I am amazed and take comfort that so many people care. I can only thank you for the sacrifice you and especially Travis have made to protect our country. As others have said “I am only an email away.” I would be honored if you so choose to share about this fine hero.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Travis was an amazingly positive person, with an attitude and drive that would not quit . . . no matter the circumstances. I had the honor of being a friend, classmate, and teammate of Travis Nixon from the 8th grade all the way through graduation of our senior year of high-school . . . I am hurt by the loss of Travis, yet I couldn't be more proud to say . . . I knew Travis W. Nixon, I played football with Travis Nixon, I was a classmate with Travis Nixon, and I was a friend of Travis Nixon. He truely is an American Hero. A hero that I admire and a hero I wish I could have sat down and talked with just one more time. We all miss Travis back here in the state of Washington, and we all are very proud of his achievements, bravery, and his desire to fight for all of us back home. Travis, myself, and Todd Strader were the only three guys from our class during high-school that played football all four years . . . by the time we were seniors Travis had earned a nickname that I'll never forget . . . we called him "O.R." O.R. standing for "old Reliable". Whenever we'd get in a pinch, or miss a tackle, or need help, Travis was always there, sticking his neck out for the rest of us, and the betterment of the team . . . he became one of our most dependable players . . . and a pretty good player at that. My heart goes out to Nick, Maggie, James, and Wendy Nixon . . . Our prayers our with you and know that your son will never be forgotten . . . Be proud of Travis Nixon . . . I know I am.

My regards go to the Nixons and to Wendy. I met Travis when he was only a specialist, and throughout the whole time I had been in bravo company everyone knew him as a leader. He was someone that you could just ask a question, and even if he didn't know it at the time, you would get an answer, even if he had to call you at a very odd time of the night. Travis was a very crucial asset to the company and I can even speak for the ones that didn't have the luxury of knowing him as a person, he will be a name everyone will remember. Whether it was him just coming by the house to visit Jon, Steve, or I; or maybe just times where we would just talk as travis and dan at work. The best was going out with everyone which always included him. Whether it was the Cadillac Ranch or South Beach, I never felt like I fit in either place but I could always turn around and find someone to talk and have a drink with, and he was always there. Just like in the past and now, he will always be with us. Your picture will always be on my wall.
Your brother,
dan

My deepest and dearest sympathies go out to the Nixon family, and to you Wendy. I was Travis's team leader from the time that he got to the company, and then his squad leader and he worked for me as a team leader after that. He will surely be missed. Never have I met a man more willing to help out, and more than that, smile all the time. He was a great soldier, and a competent leader. His memory will be engraved in the hearts of all who have served with him. It was an honor to know him. God bless you and yours.

To the family of Travis Nixon. I saw your loved one grow from a Day 1 private straight out of jump school to the NCO ranks of Bravo Company, 2nd 504th, 2nd Platoon. I was impressed with him from day one until I left the platoon in 2001. I later returned to the regiment as a 1SG and saw Travis steadily moving up the ranks. His men always had faith in him and he was highly respected by his peers. We served in Afghanistan together for his 1st tour after which I retired. I'm proud to have been one of his leaders and have thought about him much as my new life has moved on. I last saw him in January. I, as a civilian and he, as a seasoned veteran. Those days are gone for me now but the memories are with me every day. I will never forget him and the sacrifices he has made. I've only just received the news of his death tonight otherwise I would have contacted you sooner. Please take care. God Bless.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. We share your loss as we also lost our son, Leonard W. Adams, in Iraq on January 24th, 2005. Sgt Nixon, my son and all of the other fallen heros died protecting our freedom and way of life. It is a big and ongoing loss and the only way to survive is to trust in the Lord and take each day as it come and live as our sons would expect us to live.
Sgt. Travis Nixon is a HERO, don't forget that.
You have our thoughts and prayers.

Travis was one of the kindest boys to ever set foot in our livingroom. He was always kind and never had a harsh word to say. His energy and smile will be missed. Jessie, Zac, and Justin are better for having known him...as are Jay and I.

I would like to pass on my sympathy to your family. My cousin, Matthew Rothweiler, has been in the Army with Travis. I know that Travis was a good friend to Matt and a good man. Your family is in our family's prayers and will continue to be so.
