Walter George Krause

Walter George Krause, known affectionately as Walt, passed away on July 4, 2024, in New Port Richey, Florida, at the age of 77. Formally a long time resident of Alexandria, VA and Swansboro, NC. Born on April 12, 1947, in Washington, DC, Walt led a life marked by service, community involvement, and a deep love for his family.
Walt's early educational journey took place at St. John's Catholic School, grounding him in values that he carried throughout his life. He proudly served in the US Army, a foundational experience that shaped much of his later community service, including his active participation in the American Legion.
Professionally, Walt began his career as a postal carrier before transitioning to a role with the General Services Administration (GSA) where he excelled as an elevator mechanic and later as an inspector, badge #865. His work ethic and dedication to ensuring safety in public service facilities were hallmarks of his career.
Outside of his professional life, Walt was a man of many interests. A gifted cook, he cherished family gatherings and was often found at the center of celebrations. His hobbies included fishing, boating, carpentry, and he was a passionate fan of NASCAR racing, particularly car #3. His love for the outdoors was evident in his meticulous garden and the joy he took in riding his John Deere around his property. Walt's involvement in his community extended to his service as a Town Commissioner in Swansboro, NC, where he was respected for his pragmatic and thoughtful contributions.
Walt is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Paula; daughters Missi Krause Carroll (Ken), Sissy Krause Campbell (Robbie), Priscilla Krause Jackson (Gary); son Curtis Early (Angela); nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Each of them reflects a piece of his spirit and character.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion, an organization Walt held dear. These contributions honor his memory and his lifelong commitment to service.
