WAN CHENG LIU  
Wan Cheng Liu of Gaithersburg, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 after a long battle with multiple system atrophy (MSA). He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 50 years, Emily Woon-Ying Tam; daughters Julie and Tammy (Marc Hermstein); grandsons Ryan, Eric, and Kevin; and many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws.Wan Cheng was born on September 7, 1935 in Anhui, China. In 1949 his family moved to Taiwan where he went on to graduate from Gao Xiong High School and National Taiwan University. He immigrated to the US in 1963 to pursue graduate studies, earning a Masters of Civil Engineering from University of Missouri-Rolla, and a Masters of Mechanical Engineering from New York University. During his career, he was employed by New Jersey Power Company, Ebasco, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). He retired from the NRC in 2003. He was an active member of various alumni associations and Chinese cultural clubs. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, rooting for the local sports teams, and spending time with family and friends.A private entombment will take place at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD. A memorial service celebrating his life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Montgomery Hospice (www.montgomeryhospice.org) in memory of Wan Cheng Liu.

Our neighbor for over 20 years, Winston was a lovely man. Seeing him was always a pleasure that we have missed in recent years. We extend our sympathy to Emily and their daughters, and hope they are cheered by good memories.
