I had the privilege of being a student of Doctor Fleeger's as a senior at Robert E. Peary High School. I have wonderful memories of my English class. An excellent teacher who taught us to think without boundaries. His enthusiasm for teaching and learning was contagious. I gained a greater understanding of literature and a love of stories that I carry with me to this day. My deepest condolences to his family.

I was truly saddened to hear about Dr. Fleeger's passing. He was an inspirational teacher whose infectious smile and lively discussions made his unique teaching style a pleasure to experience every day. I will never forget how he animated the mundane ("Just what does a verb do for a living?") and challenged us to learn beyond the expected. Only days before I heard of his passing, I had been telling a friend that my son needs just such an inspirational English teacher and how well Dr. Fleeger prepared me for college. I was always impressed that a man of his credentials would enjoy teaching high school students, and I felt truly honored every day. For all his students at Peary High School, especially class of '81, I send my condolences to his family but also my thanks for sharing such a wonderful person with us.

"Doc" Fleeger was one of those teachers who touched you beyond the realm of the classroom. He made us want to learn.
He was not just a great teacher, he was a great man.
May God bless all of you in this challanging time.

"No man is an island" and other quotes still echo in my mind 'til this day as "Doc" Fleeger was my senior English teacher at Margruder (class of "77). He taught us more than English, he taught us to love learning. My thoughts and prayers are for him and with his family. Another great man has gone to be with so many other great people. He will truly be missed.

I'm saddened to hear of his too early passing. He spoke at my High School Graduation at the invitation of the students (Magruder '77) as a well respected and admired teacher. He was my Senior Year english teacher and one of the very best I had. I hope his family can take some comfort in the fact that he did touch so many lives in such a positive way.

Our deepest sympathy. We knew him, through our children, as Doc Fleeger. What a nice man! We know that he will be sorely missed by his wonderful family, his friends and his students.

Dr.Fleeger was a man of great understanding and deep compassion for the plight of the many children and teens whose cases came before him while serving as an outstanding administrator at MCPS. I will miss his sage advice and MCPS will be at a loss to try and replace Wayne.
