SCHLOSSER

WILBUR MARTIN SCHLOSSER (Age 96)

Wilbur Martin Schlosser died peacefully at home on January 20, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Samuel and Marion Schlosser in 1926. He grew up in Brooklyn then later, moved to Monticello, New York, where his father had a sign painting business.

Wil graduated from Drexel University in 1947 with a degree in mechanical engineering and got his first job as an engineer with the federal government in Washington, DC. In 1962 he started the W.M. Schlosser Construction company which is still in operation today. Some of the projects he was most proud of were building 49 NIH, Navy Memorial, FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine, and the lifting of the Lady of Freedom Statue atop the Capitol Building.

He bought a ranch in 1972 and developed it into a tranquil and beautiful family home in the Blue Ridge Mountains where he spent the next forty years. He had a second home on Sanibel Island, Florida where he opened a restaurant, Wil's Landing. He enjoyed racquetball, golf and boating. He was very active on the island, everyone knew him and he helped develop what is now the famous Bailey Mathews Shell Museum. His love of dogs was ever present.

He is survived by his loving partner Patty Wassel, his son Peter (Lydia) Schlosser, Andrew(Tracy) Schlosser, Jane(Steve) Carlin, Tom (Marci) Schlosser, Mary Ann (Tom) Mullin, Taylor(Selene) Schlosser, Mark(deceased). He loved spending time with his 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by former wives Susan Schlosser and Lynn Schlosser and sister Estabel. The family requests donations be made to the ASPCA or the National Shell Museum (Sanibel Island). A memorial service will be held in the Spring.

I am happy to know that Wil lived such a long life. I worked for him and his Family In 80´s, 90´s, and early 00´s. He was one of the very few who actually Walked the Walk. He could be demanding. He valued excellence, work ethic, honesty. He often took the time to talk to me and appreciated being given the straight scoop. If you BS´d him He would not forget. But he was fair and didn´t hesitate to let you know you were appreciated and doing a good job. Condolences to his Family.

Andy,Peter,Jane & Tommy. I only had a few interactions with your dad while working there. They were enjoyable especially when he walked the job with the Shepards. What a great company to work for. No wonder he made 96.
