William Morton Obituary

William Lambert Morton, 70, of Chevy Chase, MD, died on September 12, 2025, in hospice care after heart failure. He was born May 2, 1955, in Louisville, KY, the son of Minnie Whalen and Harold Lambert Morton.

Bill is survived by his wife of 34 years, Brooke Breckenridge Morton, and his son, Breckenridge "Breck," and daughter, Lily; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Robin and John Stiner; nephews, Wilson Stiner (Latoya) and Jes Stiner (Ginger); and grand-nephew, Sage Stiner. He is also survived by his first cousin, Joan Willett, and many Kentucky cousins.

He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned his bachelor's (1978) and MS (1981) degrees in Industrial and Systems Engineering. As a young consultant, he worked at Deloitte, Ernst & Young, and KPMG. Later, he was involved in several re-engineering implementations, which took him to Europe, Argentina, India, Sweden, and the UAE. As project manager, he later developed custom solutions for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Army, the State Department, and the United Nations Secretariat. He retired in 2022.

Bill was a member of the National Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Stephen Minister and deacon. He took immense pleasure in coaching baseball for multiple years with the Northwest Little League in DC. He referred to himself as, "The Swing Doctor," claiming that he could fix any child's swing. As a native son of Kentucky, the joy of horse racing began early, working summers at Churchill Downs, and it remained a lifelong pursuit. He followed the owners, trainers, jockeys and horses and never missed a Triple Crown race. A week at the Saratoga Race Course every summer was his idea of heaven.

In place of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to B.E.S.T., the Backstretch Employee Service Team (bestbackstretch.org), "Caring for the people who care for the horses," or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at a future date at the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC.

I had the pleasure of caring for Mr. Morton. I hope the football and U.S. open we watched during dinner, and my company brought him joy. My condolences to his family and friends. - Billie (IRC)
