Yulie Kiyasu Nosé

Yulie Kiyasu Nosé was born on November 14, 1921, in San Francisco, California to Sadako Kiyasu and Dr. Kunisada (nee Shigekawa) Kiyasu. She was the eldest and only daughter of four siblings. After graduating from Lowell High School in 1939, she was enrolled at the University of California, Berkley until the start of WWII. In 1942, she was interned with her family at Gila, Arizona, one of ten camps where Japanese American U.S. citizens were unjustifiably confined. After one year, she was cleared to leave camp for St. Louis, Missouri where she worked in the Zoology Research Department at Washington University. When the war ended, she returned to California to reunite with her parents and to resume her studies at the University of California. In 1947, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition. After graduating, she worked for Safeway in their food testing lab. Her marriage in November 1954 to Akira Paul Nosé, an economist at the International Monetary Fund, brought her to Maryland where they raised four children, Peter, Ellen, Steven and Nancy. Yulie was a homemaker, a student of Ikenobo flower arrangement, doll making and "Harie" (Japanese paper painting).

Yulie's children and their spouses are Dr. Peter and Karen Nosé, Ellen Nosé and Alex Bodian, Steven and Maria Nosé, and Nancy Nosé. Her grandchildren and their spouses are Dr. Brent and Allison Nosé, Andrew Nosé, Kelly Nosé, Sean Murphy, Kevin Murphy and Trevor Nosé. Her great grandchildren are Campbell and Camille Nosé.

A memorial service will held on September 20, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. followed by a light reception. Both will be held at The Village at Rockville, 9701 Veirs Drive, Rockville MD 20850. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice.
