VILLA RICA, GA - Arthur Campbell, 70, passed away at his home on Friday, February 5, 2016. He was appointed by President Carter in 1978 to serve as the Southeast Area Director for the Farmers Home Administration, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). He worked on the Clinton Gore Transitional Team and was appointed by President Clinton as the Deputy Undersecretary of Rural Housing of the USDA. He was also nominated to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Economic Development at the Department of Commerce. He was confirmed in this position and served until the end of President Clinton's term. He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Campbell; his three children, Erika Campbell-Harris, Nedra Campbell Magee (Raymond), and Nicholas Campbell (Joy); four grandchildren, Jordan and Serenity Harris and Justin and Logan Campbell; seven brothers, and several other relatives. Visitation at the Alfonso Dawson Funeral Home 3000 Martin Luther King Dr., Atlanta, GA 30331, on Sunday, February 14, 2016, with a wake at 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016, at 11:00 am at Ben Hill United Methodist Church 2099 Fairburn Road, SW, Atlanta, GA 30331. Internment following the services at Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tuskegee University, Class of 1966, in his memory. I was very sad to learn of the passing of Art Campbell. I was a friend and colleague of Art's for many years since his work with the Southern Regional Council in the late 1960's. I also worked with him when he was at FmHA/USDA, HAC and the Federal Home Loan Bank board.

He was a personal friend and mentor as well as a great supporter of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives and the Panola Land Buyers Association in west Alabama.

He was a very inspirational supporter of our work for a lifetime.

We will keep Art in our thoughts and prayers.
