David Yolitz Obituary

David O. Yolitz

David O. Yolitz, 82, of Rothschild passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born February 21, 1933, in the Town of Easton, WI to the late William and Alma (Borchardt) Yolitz. David received his education in Wausau including St. Stephen's school and later graduated from Wausau High in 1951. He then worked in the office at Steffke Freight in Wausau. In March of 1953 David was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country during the Korean War. He was stationed in England until his discharge in February of 1955.

After his discharge he returned to the Wausau area where he was united in marriage to Darlene A. Kromrei at St. Stephen Lutheran Church on September 10, 1955. David was employed for 35 years at EO Johnson Company working as a service technician and in later years in the warehouse.

In his free time he enjoyed tending to his roses and garden, traveling all 50 states with Darlene, fishing, playing cards, going to the gym, listening to country music and polka dancing. David also enjoyed all sports but especially watching a football game.

He was active in St. Stephen Lutheran Church where he was an usher, Eucharistic Minister, and member of Young at Heart. He was also a member of the American Legion where he served on the honor guard for many years and for 33 years served as coordinator for the Lutheran World Relief clothing drive.

One of David's great joys was in September of 2014 when he had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. with his son Kevin on the Honor Flight.

David is survived by his wife Darlene of Rothschild, two sons: Keith (Lisa) Yolitz of Stevens Point, WI and Kevin (Patti) Yolitz of Wausau, a daughter Shelley (Steve) Benusa of Onalaska, WI, three grandchildren: Nathan Yolitz (Megan Anderson), Amy Yolitz and Tsion Benusa, one brother Herb Yolitz and a sister LaVerne Hettinga both of Wausau, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother Wilbert Yolitz and three sisters: Elva Rastl, Lucille Merriam and Joyce Weber.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 512 McClellan St, Wausau with Rev. Rich Block officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park with military honors. Memorials will be given to Lutheran World Relief or St. Stephen Lutheran Church.
