Herman Isberner Obituary

Isberner, Herman

Herman E. Isberner, of Wausau, passed away, Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Stoney River Assisted Living.

Herman was born in Wausau, February 6, 1928, son of the late Robert and Hattie (Gritzmacher) Isberner. On September 11, 1954 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janice Werner at St. John's Luther Church, Edgar, WI. They shared 60 years life together until Janice's passing on September 17, 2015.

Herman was a lifelong member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Wausau.

Besides his devotion to his family, Herman was always ready to share his love of the outdoors through teaching the finer points of hunting, fishing and fire arms safety. He was a Certified Master Firearms instructor and assisted many in advancing their shooting skills.

Herman was a founding member of the Marathon County Rifle club. As a renowned marksman, he earned state championships and set records in a number of different rifle competitions.

Among family and friends, he was known as The Jagermejster and was an eternal optimist with a sense of humor that endeared him to many. He was an impromptu musician having taught himself to play the harmonica, accordion and bugle. He was a lifelong photographer with an eye towards landscapes.

Herman is survived by sister Alice Maxon of Wausau, WI, son David (Cheryl) Isberner of White Bear Lake, MN, granddaughters Taylor Isberner, Eau Claire, WI and Julia Isberner, St. Peter, MN. Herman was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Robert, William and sisters, Flora and Helen

Herman was my mentor in all shooting sports and a great friend. Jan & Herman, Tom & Biddy, Marg & Mike shared some super vacations together. Herman was a pretty unique guy!

So sorry to hear of your loss. Herman and Jan were our neighbors until last summer when we moved. They let us use their garden behind their garage in exchange for a taste of our homemade wine. We would even take our little dog to their house on occasion for a visit. I'll always cherish a letter we received in a Christmas card from them - it really expressed his character. We visited them often. Very sad to hear of his passing. Our deepest sympathy

A great friend and sportsman that I enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, and snowmobiling with and many other sports. Rest in peace dear Herman.
