JoAnn Szalewski

JoAnn Szalewski, 52, Wausau, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born Jan. 16, 1959, in Wausau to the late Benjamin and Josephine (Tuszkowski) Kostroski.

JoAnn enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and going up north where she could spend hours mowing the grass. She also thought very highly of her co-workers in the IT Eligibility Department at UMR.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Szalewski, Wausau; and two children, daughter, Amanda Szalewski, and son, Charles Szalewski II, both of Wausau. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, James (Connie) Kostroski, Mosinee, Bernadine (Gordon) Rutkowski, Wausau, LeRoy (Bonnie) Kostroski, Schofield, Janice (Stanley) Strojny, Mosinee, Rita (Gary) Moots, Merrill, Mary (Eugene) Pflieger, Hatley, Donna (Al) James, Ringle, and Debra Kostroski, Wausau. Other survivors include her mother-in-law, Sally Szalewski, Wausau; sister-in-law, Clare (Bruce) Fehlhaber; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Josephine Kostroski; her brother, Marvin Kostroski; and her father-in-law, Clarence Szalewski.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. The Rev. John Robert Alphonse will officiate from Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ will be officiating.

Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau, is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hamied Rezazadeh and the entire Oncology nursing staff at Asprius Wausau Hospital for the care they gave to her.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Chuck and family. What a loss and we can only imagine that God needed her expertise in Heaven as she was an awesome person.
