Raymond Pickett Obituary

Raymond Cedric Pickett

November 28, 1959 - May 18, 2020

Raymond Cedric Pickett, 60, of Wausau, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2020.

Raymond was born in Pittsfield, MA, and raised in Colonie, NY, and Sarasota, FL, where he attended high school. He worked for many years in construction in Sarasota and in Wausau but had to retire due to medical issues, and for the past several years he received compassionate long-term care, provided most recently by Mount View Care Center in Wausau. Raymond enjoyed church services at St. Paul's and Thursday pizza and coffee at the 400 Block in Wausau. He loved animals and enjoyed the visiting therapy pets, and especially the birds in the aviary, at Colonial Manor.

Raymond is survived by his loving mother, Carole White, of Sarasota, FL; brother, Steven Pickett, of Wausau; sister, Christine Hardin, and brother-in-law, Joseph Hardin, of Santa Monica, CA; brother, Jack Wilson, of Buena Park, CA; sister, Sheila Pickett, of Wisconsin; and stepfather, John Wilson, of Laguna Woods, CA; as well as his nieces and nephews, Ashley Pickett, Jessica Siegfried, and Sarah, Nathan and Jeremy Wilson. He is predeceased by his father, Thomas Charles Pickett of Jacksonville, FL.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mount View Care Center and Colonial Manor in Wausau, as well as to Raymond's wonderful caregivers over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Raymond Pickett's memory to Project Minnie, a nonprofit organization that provides food and veterinarian services to animals belonging to the homeless. Carole, Christine and your family,

I want to send my sincere condolences to you Carole and your family. Raymond was certainly someone special to my mother and I. My mom and I first met Ray when they both lived at Benedictine Living Community. He was one of the kindest people to my mom. His big heart, that wonderful smile and the time he spent holding her hand and talking to her meant the world to her and me. The times he would ask the nurses to go outside and pick flowers for her meant so much as she was always picking flowers for her little vases in her home. At this time mom was well into her later 90's and then 100's, Ray in his 50's. I will never forget the call I got telling me they were always holding hands. No one except Ray and his kind heart and sincere feelings for others could have made her feel any more special. He would wheel himself into her room and talk to her for hours. She didn't talk much then but she certainly listened and loved every minute of it. Since I lived in FL. and would come every month for a week or two, he helped her get through some very lonely times.

As well, as getting to know Ray we got to know Carole and Christine on my visits from FL up to Wausau. Then to find out I lived only a few miles from is mother in the Sarasota/Venice area of FL. Carole and I have since become friends and I certainly can understand where his kindness and warm heart came from. It is a small world out there and I was blessed as much as my mother.

After my mom passed at Christmas in 2014, I continued to keep intouch with Ray. I have always felt Ray was one of a kind special person to make my mother feel so special at such a time in her life where she so badly needed that feeling of someone caring like he did.

He was really a true gift from God for her as well as myself. I will never forget that time in her life were Ray totally gave everything he had to give to someone he hardly knew and made her feel so special.

May you rest in peace now Ray and I would love to be a fly in the corner and see if you to are still holding hands. At least no one can ask you not to see her up in heaven now. God bless you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your friendship.

Christine, Carole and family.
Please accept my heart felt condolences to your entire family. I will always remember Ray as a genuine and wonderful person. He had one of the biggest hearts you could find. He had razor sharp wit, compassion, love for animals and nature. And for me thats the measure of a good human being. He was courageous and proud in the face of Many significant challenges. But he never lost his optimism. And of course there was always that winning smile. I will never forget him. He is finally be free.
May he Rest In Peace.
