Bonnie Matthias Obituary
Bonnie was born on February 28, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Wilber and Florene (Fasse) Warneke. She was baptized in March of 1945 at Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo. She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. She graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1963 and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in January of 1970. She was united to Leon Matthias on June 28, 1964, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. The couple was later divorced.
Bonnie taught business at Hawkeye Community College from 1970-2002 and then taught as an adjunct instructor until her retirement in 2011. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Klinger where she was a member of the ladies' group (L.W.M.L).
Bonnie loved working with her Arabian horses and in 2007 received the Arabian Presidents Award for outstanding service to the Iowa Arabian Horses Association. She enjoyed the many Caribbean cruises she took with family and friends.
Bonnie is survived by a son, Lon (Kim) Matthias of Norwalk; two grandchildren, Landon Matthias and Eva Matthias; a sister, Julie Freeman of Hiawatha; a nephew, Mike (Deb) Freeman of Hiawatha; and her great nephews, John (Sally) Freeman of Lisbon and Matt Freeman of Tiffin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother-in-law, Ken Freeman. Bonnie passed away on her mother's birthday.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Klinger, rural Readlyn with Pastor Miguel Gonzalez-Feliciano officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Bonnie's family would like to thank the staff of Denver Sunset Home and Hospice for their attentive care so Bonnie could be comfortable in her last days of life.

I am so sorry to hear of Bonnie's passing. I had not been around her in many years but while growing up and showing for Berry's Skyline Arabians I remember her well. Always so friendly and classy. Very sweet lady. Prayers for you all.
