Gary Walker Obituary

Gary Lee Walker, 80, of Waverly, died Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at UnityPoint Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Gary was born September 28, 1944, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Charles and Dorothy (Morgan) Walker. Gary graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1962. He married Ruth Schmidt. They had two sons, Jeffrey (Reva) and Timothy. He married Connie Downs; they later divorced. Gary began working with his father at Walker Auto Salvage as a teenager and took over the business with his mother upon his father's death in 1971. He retired January 1, 2019.

Gary is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey (Reva) and Timothy; two sisters, Carol (Gerald) Miner and Karen (Jeff) Erhardt; one brother, Mark (Jan) Walker; grandchildren, Chris Walker, Zach Walker, Jessica Bagby and Kayla Bagby; nieces and nephews, Jenna (Michael) Couch, Jade (Becca) Miner, Natalie Erhardt, Brad (Karissa) Walker, Amanda (John) Sexton, Andrew (Abby) Walker and Emma Walker; eight great-nieces and -nephews; and a special friend, Jeanne Moore. He is preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Teal Erhardt.

Per Gary's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at the Waverly Area Veterans Post in Waverly. He requested no flowers and that memorial contributions be directed to the Waverly Area Veterans Post - the place that he loved. Online condolences may be left at kaisercorson.com.
