Irene Weyer Obituary

Irene Weyer, 92, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Waverly, died Sunday, Jan. 6, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Irene was born on Aug. 27, 1920, in rural Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Sophia (Huck) Bauer.
On July 16, 1949, Irene was united in marriage to Gerhart Weyer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. They were married for 61 years. The couple resided in Waverly until 1986, the couple then moved to Holiday Lake by Brooklyn, and then in 1992, to Cedar Rapids to get closer to family.
Irene was a long time member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waverly and most recently at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
Irene's memory is honored by her four children, Don (Denise Benson) Weyer, of Cedar Rapids, Randy (Diane) Weyer, of Solon, Mary (James) Suchland, of Yakima, Wash., and Janice (William) Savel, of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Alyson (James) Kilgus, of Puyallup, Wash., Krista Suchland, of Yakima, Wash., and Lindsey Savel, of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Norma Heiser, of Waverly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Gerhart on April 10, 2011; two sisters, Lenora Foelske and Ruth Dettmer; and a brother, Ewald "Pete" Bauer.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly with the Rev. Keith Brustuen officiating.
Memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice in Irene's name and sent to 290 Blairs Ferry Road, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402 and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.
