Mildred "Milly" Kaufman

1924 - 2009

Mildred R. "Milly" Kaufman, 85, of Fairbank, died at her home Thursday, Dec. 31, after a short illness.
Mildred was born Nov. 24, 1924, in Traer, the daughter of Joseph and Ruth LeFever Drahos. She married Wallace Kaufman on Feb. 9, 1948, at St. John's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Mildred was a devoted homemaker and mother. She was always by her husband's side, farming with him until they retired in 2005. She loved farm life and family.
Survivors include her four daughters, Dianne (Joe) Rubino, Donna (Dean Mangrich) Costello, Karen (Kevin) Coffin, all of Fairbank, and Elaine (Charles) Henry of Broomfield, Colo.; two sons, Mark Kaufman of Waterloo and Kevin (Denise Youngblut) Kaufman of Fairbank; 19 grandchildren, Jeff (Tami) Rubino, Jennifer (Matt) Davidson, JaNae Rubino, Lisa Rees, Leon (Heather) Costello, Myles Costello, Matt (Brenda) Coffin, Mitchell Coffin, Michael Coffin, Adam (Tammy Niehaus and Brady) Kaufman, Andy (Brook) Kaufman, Aaron (Kristin) Kaufman, Derek Kaufman, Carter Kaufman, Dana Weber, Levi Henry, Ian Henry, Isaac Henry and Lacey Henry; 12 great-grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Marie Kaufman of Oelwein; brother-in-law Michael Schmitz of Gilbertville; Her brother Duane (Joan) Drahos of Shell Rock; brothers-in-law James Kaufman, Jerry Kaufman, both of Fairbank, Jack Kaufman of Cedar Rapids, and Tim Kaufman of Windsor, Neb.; three sisters-in-law, Connie Broell and Mary Kay Kaufman, both of Waterloo, and Susan Schutt of Egan, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Milly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace, May 18, 2005, a son-in-law Michael Costello, a granddaughter Marie Coffin; a great-granddaughter Miranda Davidson; one sister Helen Schmitz and one brother Merle Drahos.
Funeral Mass was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank, with the Rev. Harry Koelker officiating. Burial was in the I.C. Cemetery. Friends could call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank, with a 1:30 p.m. rosary and 3:30 p.m. scripture service.
