Nicholas Demuth Obituary

Nicholas (Nick) Roger Demuth, of Waverly, died on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia).
Nick was born March 7, 1943, in Waterloo, the son of Bernard and Jeanette (Nie) Demuth. He graduated from Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville in 1961. After high school he worked at the Griswold Fur Farm in Winthrop and A&P Grocery Store in Waterloo. He served in the Army Reserves from 1963 to 1969. On June 12, 1971, he was united in marriage to Rebecca (Becky) Becker at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following their marriage, Nick worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing and Construction Machinery, both in Waterloo. He retired from GMT in Waverly after 30 years.
Nick's interests included hunting, trapping, fishing, gardening and yard work. He also had a special interest in running. He will be remembered for his 48 year passion of raising fur on the Demuth Fur Farms.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the U of I Hospitals and Clinics; Dr. Margarida Silverman, Karen Ajram, Ryan Carpenter and the staff from the seventh floor BMT Unit, and the staff of the fourth floor Oncology Palliative Unit.
Nick is survived by his wife, Becky Demuth, of Waverly; a son, Chris (Sara) Demuth, and their children, Brenna and Avery Demuth, of Ottumwa; a daughter, Laura Demuth, and her sons, Tyler and Ryan Wolf, of Mason City; a brother, Vincent (Mary Ann) Demuth, of Waterloo; three sisters, Gladys (Donald) Miner, of Ankeny, and Arlene (Willard) Adolphs, and Ruth (Tom) Tausz, both of Marshall, Mo.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Timothy Demuth in 2010, and a nephew David Demuth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly with the Rev. David Schatz officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Scripture Service beginning at 7 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
