MARILYN ADLOF Obituary

MARILYN KATHRYN ADLOF Marilyn Kathryn Adlof was born on November 21,1940 at home on the family farm in rural Travis County TX. She passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024. She was the 2nd of four daughters born to Evelyn and Gus Schmidt. Marilyn graduated from McCallum High School in Austin, TX in 1958. She went to college at UT Austin where she met and married David Adlof. They moved to Waxahachie in 1962 where she made new lifelong friends and was an active member of her community. Marilyn went on to graduate from the University of North Texas with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She taught Kindergarten at Northside Elementary School. After a few years as a stay-at-home mom, she returned to teaching at Waxahachie Junior High and taught for 22 more years as an English Language Arts and Reading teacher until her retirement in 2004. Marilyn was a long-standing member of Ferris Heights United Methodist Church, attending the Searchers Class. She was also a member of the Waxahachie Junior Service League, as well as the local chapter of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed cooking (like her famous banana pie!) sewing, crafts, Bunko, word puzzles, dominoes, square dancing, volunteering as a greeter at DFW airport, as well as cheering on her favorite UT Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. She was an avid reader and aspiring writer. She was very active in the lives of her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Nina, making sure to attend all the school and sports activities that she could. Marilyn is survived by three children: Karen Hale of Allen, TX, Kayla and husband Nick Hester of Waxahachie, and Bryan and wife Lorie Adlof of Waxahachie. She has seven grandchildren: Ethan and wife Julia Hester, Amarie Hester, Miranda Hale, Jack David Hale, Tatum, Sloane and Bryn Adlof. She also recently welcomed her first great-grandchild, Heath Hester. She is survived by her sisters, Joyce and husband Milton Koch, Retta and husband Ron Gaddy, and Delise and husband Randall Becker; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her 3-year-old son, Randall Wrey Adlof in 1966; her father Gustav Waldemar Schmidt; her mother Evelyn Elnora Schmidt. Visitation was Thursday, February 22nd, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Boze Mitchell McKibben Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service was held on Friday, February 23rd, 2024 at 10:00 am at Ferris Heights United Methodist Church in Waxahachie, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 pm at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, TX.
