Connie Duchman Obituary

Connie Sue Duchman

Connie Sue Duchman was born February 18, 1957, in Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Myrna (Kiewiet) Diekmann. She attended Algona Community College Schools and graduated in 1975. Upon graduation she attended the University of Northern Iowa where she earned her Bachelor of Music in music education in 1978.

Connie then accepted a vocal music teaching position with the Waterloo Community College Schools where she taught vocal music and chorus at the elementary and middle school levels for thirty-four years. In 1986 she received her Master of Arts degree in music education from the University of Northern Iowa.

On June 25, 1983, Connie was united in marriage to Loren Duchman at the First United Methodist church in Algona, Iowa. The couple spent their entire married life in Cedar Falls, where they raised their three children. Connie loved being a mother and was happiest participating in all of her children's many activities.

Connie enjoyed traveling and researching her family's travels, playing the piano, walking in nature, reading, baking, and especially spending time with her young grandchildren. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, for forty-three years, where she also taught Sunday school and children's choirs over the years. Connie's walk with Jesus was very important to her.

Connie died on March 26, 2026, at her home in Cedar Falls, after her battle with pancreatic cancer. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Loren; her children, Kyle (Julia) Duchman of Rochester, Minnesota, Bryce (Emily) Duchman of San Diego, California, Allison (Alex) Duchman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Jocelyn Duchman, Sofia Duchman, Liam Duchman, Amelia Moseley, and two grandchildren to come; sisters, Kathy Petersen of Norwalk, Iowa, Vicki (Harvey) Aikman of Midland, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; Robert and Myrna Diekmann.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2026, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. Refreshments and fellowship will be immediately following. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Hillside Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Online guestbook at richardsonfuneralservice.com.
