Dennis Paul McFarlane

Dennis Paul McFarlane, 82, of Cedar Falls, died on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Western Home Communities, Thuesen Cottage.
He was born on April 22, 1943, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of Gerald and Doris (Orum) McFarlane. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1961 before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1967. On October 27, 1962, he was united in marriage to Michele Christiason at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. He worked as a supervisor at John Deere until his retirement in 2000.
Dennis was athletic from a young age, immersing himself in high school wrestling and football. His love of sports continued into his adult life, through racquetball, tennis and a lot of golf. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with the Boy Scouts and Deere friends.
After retirement, Dennis and Michele began wintering in Texas and continued to do so for 25 years. They traveled with friends and family on cruises and tours abroad. One of their favorite trips was to Australia and New Zealand. For several years, Dennis volunteered at Sartori Hospital greeting and helping many families. Dennis was the guy who could fix anything and happily would for others.
Dennis lived his Christian faith. He was honest, kind, helpful, and loving to all. He was the best husband, son, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Michele; son, Jeffrey (Jackie) McFarlane of Sugar Land, TX; daughter, Lisa (Mark) Rolinger of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren: Lauren (Jason) Finberg, Daniel McFarlane, Abby (Anthony) Montez, Allison Rolinger (Sam Nechkash) and Clare Rolinger, great-granddaughters: Kathleen and Isabelle Finberg and another on the way, and brothers, Gary (Sharon) of Slidell, TX, Bob (Rita) of Waterloo, his twin Darrel (Denise) of Springdale, AR, and Monty (Diane) of Cedar Falls, brother-in-law,
Mike (Vicky) Christiason, sister-in-law, Marlys Christiason, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Milo and Marian Christiason.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21st at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls. Private family burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery in Waterloo.
