Gladys Jeanette Newton, 88, formally from Gilbertville, passed away on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Gladys was born March 26th, 1935 in Black Hawk County to parents Anthony and Anna (Nie) Schares.
Gladys met her husband, Paul while working at Bishops café in Waterloo and they married in April 29th, 1957.
She worked at Porky's Red Carpet Club, prior to moving to Las Vegas in 1985. Gladys worked in the Casino Industry at many locations including The Frontier, Arizona Charlies, Bellagio, Mirage, Gold Coast before retiring from the culinary union in 2000. Her hobbies included gambling and playing golf. Gladys was well-known for her amazing laugh.
Gladys is survived by her children, all of Las Vegas: Doug Newton (Doris), Tim Newton (Kathi), Darryl Newton, Andy Newton (Tanya), and Jon Newton (Kelli); Grand-Children, all of Las Vegas: Chase Newton, Amber Newton, and Tyler Newton; her siblings and their spouses: Leroy & Cheryl Schares of Independence, Barbara Mayer of Gilbertville, and Anna & Keith Fettkether of Readlyn.
Gladys is preceded in death by her spouse, Paul Newton, her parents Anna & Anthony Schares, her siblings and their spouses, Helene Weber, Robert & Jeanette Schares, Margaret & Matt Schmitz, Thelma & John Babinet, Richard & Rosemary Schares, Edward & Dorothy Schares and her brother-in-law, Jack Mayer.
Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, October 23, 2023 at 10:00am, St Joseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Church, 7260 West Sahara Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89117-2815.

Our sincere condolences to the family. Worked with Gladys at Porkey's Red Carpet Supper Club in the late'70's and early '80's . She was a force .

I always enjoyed working with Gladys at Porky's Red Carpet. From 1971 Until her and her family moved to Las Vegas. There was a time we were all sitting by the pool. And of course, Gladys had the boys there also. The little one jumped in the pool and up jumped Gladys off of the lounge chair. She said he can't swim and she jumped in after him. Another time we were all snowed in on a Saturday night, The snow was past our knees and Paul came to the rescue all we needed to do was get to the street. The drive at Porky's was plowed several times but kept blowing shut. And the stories about the boys growing up was so funny. We were super busy on a Saturday night, and one of the boys called ask if they could have ice cream that was in the freezer. It was funny at the time. I'm sure Gladys and Paul are sorely missed. Comfort and strength being prayed to you and your family.

So sorry to hear of Gladies passing. I have fond memories of her when we were in card club together many years ago! Her laugh was GREAT!! God Bless you at this difficult time.
