Helen Imbrock Obituary

Helen Mary Maassel Imbrock

May 23, 1925 - October 7, 2025

Helen Mary Maassel Imbrock, age 100, of Waverly, IA, died Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, IA.

Helen Mary Maassel was born May 23, 1925, to William and Amelia (Arps) Maassel in Hamler, OH. She was baptized and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hamler. Helen attended country school through the eighth grade, then attended Hamler High School, graduating in 1943. She then helped her sisters with their children in their homes before working for General Electric in Fort Wayne, IN, during WWII. Following the war, she began working in an office in Napoleon, OH, and later for Lincoln Life Insurance Co. in Fort Wayne, IN. She married fellow Hamler native Arnold Imbrock on December 26, 1947, in her home church. They then settled in the trailer park at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, where Arnie was a student and Helen worked for the Lutheran Mutual Life Insurance Company. They later moved to Dubuque, IA, where Arnold attended Wartburg Seminary. After his graduation in 1953, they moved to Gordon, NE, where Pastor Imbrock served his first parish. They later served parishes in the Arlington-Badger, SD area; in the Hudson, SD area; in LeMars, IA; and in Rock Rapids, IA. While in LeMars, Helen served as an assistant to the administrator of the Brentwood Nursing Home. In Rock Rapids, she was a cook at the local hospital and a member of the Rock Rapids Public Library board for four years.

The couple retired and moved to Waverly, IA, in 1988. Helen was very active in the Waverly community, volunteering her time and talents with Cedar Valley Hospice, Bremwood, Bartels, and Mitchell Manor. She was a very active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she sang in the Chancel Choir and served with ladies' organizations which supplied over 470 handmade quilts to Lutheran World Relief. She was also active in the Waverly Walk and Talk Club and the American Legion Post #176 Auxiliary. She quietly celebrated her 100th birthday in May, 2025, with family and friends.

Survivors are her four sons, James (Colleen), Timothy (Rebecca), Stephen (Garnet), and Daniel; and two daughters, Ruth and Rachel; as well as four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, in October, 2013, as well as her parents and siblings.

Visitation on Monday, October 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, IA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 14 at 10:30 a.m., at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly and may be watched live on the church's YouTube page.
