Julie Hartman Obituary

Julie Anne Hartman (Shelton), age 70, of Montezuma, Iowa, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at her home.

Julie was born November 28, 1954, in Waterloo, Iowa to Earl E. and Darlene M. (Lynch) Shelton. She attended Waterloo West High School then later transferred to Central High School in Waterloo, Iowa where she became part of their first graduating class. She married Edward J. Hartman on October 28, 1972, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Waterloo, Iowa.

Julie was a homemaker until her children were in school and then earned a degree in Medical Office Clerical from Hawkeye Community College. She worked in several professional offices throughout Waterloo and retired from Master Builders as manager of the Construction Plan department in 2008.

Julie was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished her family above all else. To capture their stories and laughter, she created a family newspaper so no development or funny moment would be forgotten. She loved hosting holiday gatherings, filling her home with all the people she loved. Known for her creativity, she delighted her grandsons with scavenger hunts and Easter egg hunts and even joined them in a game of football from time to time. She always had a funny story to share and was endlessly eager to hear about the lives of her children and grandchildren. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by loved ones and enjoying lake life.

Julie is survived by her husband Edward of Montezuma, two sons Chris (Angi) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Sean (Beth) of Denver, Iowa, brother Steve (Elaine) Shelton, niece Ashley Shelton, and three grandsons Carter, Grayson, and Brady Hartman.

Julie was preceded in death by her father Earl, and mother Darlene.

Yesterday

I will miss my forever friend every day
Last year Julie gifted to me a necklace with 2 girls hugging, along with a card that said
"For my Unbiological Sister
It meant so much to me
She was the friend that I grew up with & we talked very often about family, kids, and life
One call a week was common, more if one of us were troubled
I will miss that sweet friend of mine so much
My prayers continue to go to Ed, Chris, Sean and grandchildren
Rest in peace, my dear friend
See you when I cross your way
