Lawrence E. Vanderwerf, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, May 26, 2025, at his home at NewAldaya Lifescapes.
Born in Abbott, Iowa, on April 9, 1936, to the late Peter and Loretta (Stockdale) Vanderwerf, Lawrence graduated from Ackley High School in 1954. On August 5, 1955, Lawrence married Patricia Bailey, in Iowa Falls, and would spend nearly 70 years happily married. He was a supervisor at John Deere in the foundry core room for 30 years.
Lawrence held a strong faith in Christ and was an active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Cedar Falls. Outside of church, Lawrence enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, tending his knockout rose bushes, and was an avid Hawkeye football fan. Him and Patricia loved to travel together, especially to their favorite destination, Aruba.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Patricia Vanderwerf; children, Lonnie (Gladys) Vanderwerf of Guatemala, Valerie (David) Sutherland of Florida, and Pamela Christensen of Florida; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 5 great great-grandchildren; and 2 siblings, LuVerne (Sheila) Vanderwerf and Beverly Oelmann. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers and their wives, Gerald (Alice) and Floyd (Marlene) Vanderwerf; twin-sister, Lorraine Hitchcock; and brother-in-law, Harvey Oelmann.
Lawrence's visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Friday, May 30, 2025, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. His funeral service will begin at 10am, Saturday, May 31, with visitation an hour prior, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Please join the family for reception immediately following the funeral at church, and graveside service at Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls at 2:15pm.
