Linda M. Hickman

Linda M. Hickman, 81, of Evansdale, died at her home Sunday, October 5, 2025. She was born October 6, 1943, in Waterloo, daughter of Daniel E. and Betty Jane (McNelly) Lawless. She graduated from East High School in 1962.
She married Fred Hickman January 4, 1963, in Waterloo. He died November 18, 2020. Her life was filled with her family. She was all she ever wanted to be as a wife, a mom and a homemaker for her family. Over the years, she worked as a daycare provider, a waitress at the Weathervane Restaurant in Denver, Iowa, and a Pinkerton Security Guard at John Deere in Waterloo. After retirement, she and Fred delivered papers for the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier.
Linda spent her life caring for others. Her heart was especially geared toward caring for children. She was a member of the former Burton Avenue Baptist Church for more than 40 years where she served in children's ministries, ladies ministries, and the missionary fellowship. Most recently, she was a member of Hagerman Baptist Church in Waterloo. There she served the Lord as a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, and was involved in Ladies ministries. Her real passion was loving people and discipling them. She continued this throughout her life.
She is survived by her three daughters, Shellie (Ron) Crisman of Waterloo, Maria (John) Gibson of Potosi, Wis., and Traci (Nate) Johnson of Waterloo; 9 grandchildren, Matthew (Hannah), Ray, Jerika (John), Andrew (Kari), Noah (Kayla), Mackenzi, Sarah, Kodi, Calie (Will); 10 plus 1 great-grandchildren, Logan, Jacob, Adelynn, Travis, Elliott, Levi, Calvin, Frederick, Asher, and Judith; and two brothers, Skeets (Mary) Lawless of Cumming, Ga., and Jeff (Pam) Lawless of Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Hickman; brother, Peter J. Lawless; and sister-in-law, Nancy White Lawless of Waterloo.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Hagerman Baptist Church, Waterloo.
Graveside services will follow in the Pioneer Cemetery, Bennington Township, Waterloo.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 15th, at Locke at Tower Park.
Memorials will be directed to the Hagerman Baptist Church, Waterloo.
