Margaret Chari Obituary

Margaret (Peggy) Chari, nee Egbert, 76, beloved Mother, Spouse, Daughter, and Sister, was called to her eternal resting place on January 22, 2024 in Albuquerque, NM, with family at her side. She entered this world on May 11, 1947 in Milwaukee, WI, born to Jerome and Mary (Hayden) Egbert. She was the oldest of 7 children. She attended grade school at St. Mary's Clark's Mills, WI, and Holy Family Convent, for high school, in Manitowoc, WI, graduating in June of 1965. Peggy went on to further her education at Lakeshore Technical College graduating with a License Practical Nursing degree in 1972 and a Bachelor of Arts degree and teaching certificate from Upper Iowa University in Waterloo, Iowa in 1997.

Peggy married her sweetheart, Sreenivas Chari, on June 25, 1976 in Milwaukee, WI. Peggy and Chari met through a computer dating service in Milwaukee while Peggy worked as a LPN at St. Mary's Hospital and Chari was pursuing his Master's degree in Engineering at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. After a short time living in Milwaukee, where their oldest son Raja was born, the family relocated to Cedar Falls, Iowa where Chari's job with John Deere took them. Their second son Krishna was born in Cedar Falls and it is there that they raised their family and became part of the St. Patricks Catholic Church community.

Peggy's love of reading and learning led to her job as the librarian at St. Patrick's and Blessed Sacrament Schools for many years helping to fill young minds with knowledge. Peggy often took continuing education courses at the University of Northern Iowa or online courses. Peggy enjoyed the theater with family and friends; and she was an avid GeoCacher searching for cache treasures every where she traveled. But, above all she enjoyed her family.

Peggy is survived by her two sons, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and great nieces and nephews. Her son, Raja, his wife Holly and their three children, Declan, Brogan and Ellery; her son Krishna, his wife Lucia and their daughter Matilda (Mati). Peggy's brothers and sisters, Robert and his children, Robin and Jonathon, Gregory his wife Barbara and their son Sean, along with stepchildren, Paul and Christine, her sister Sandra, her sister Veronica and her husband James and their children J.R. and Jillian, her sister in-law, Nancy (Leo) and their children Desiree, Joshua and Jacob, her youngest brother Martin and his wife Julie and their children Danielle, Jesse, Joel and Alex.

Peggy was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Sreenivas, her parents, Mary and Jerry Egbert, younger brother Leo and many loved cousins, Aunts and Uncles. Peggy's trusted companion and sidekick wiener dog, Chinna, of 18 years, followed Peggy in death a week later.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 on Saturday, May 11th at St Patrick's Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will start at 9 and mass will be followed by internment at Mt Olivet cemetery and then a memorial luncheon.

The family would like to thank her friends and co-workers in Cedar Falls, Waterloo, and the Cedar Valley Catholic Schools.

Goodbye to you our beloved Peggy, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Raja and Krishna,
I was so sorry to read of Peggy's passing. I treasure the hours I spent with her at Blessed Sacrament, during our knitting group and when we would get together to just visit and share stories about our grandchildren. Peggy was such a kind caring person. When I had rotator cuff surgery, she picked me up every day on her way to Blessed Sacrament then waited for me to be done at the end of the day and drove me home. That is just the kind , caring person your mom was. I am glad her last days were spent with family. I know she is happy to be with your dad in heaven now.

I owe gratitude to Peggy auntie and Sreenivas Chari for whatever I have become today. They opened their home and hearts when I first arrived to Cedar Falls guiding me through my progress in life. Auntie has been a source of inspiration throughout helping all who came in contact with her. I will miss her a lot.

Peggy was a friend I bowled with and she had a fun wonderful sense of humor. We all missed here when she left to move to be with her children and grandchildren but she was always spoken of with a smile. See you later Peggy
