Marsha Petersen Newton

August 11, 1950 - February 1, 2026

Marsha Petersen Newton, 75, died peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Western Home Communities–Nation Cottage in Cedar Falls.

She was born on August 11, 1950, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Neoma (Kueck) Petersen. On July 20, 1996, she was united in marriage to Mark Newton in Waterloo. She spent her career as a small business owner, as an educator working at River Hills, and as a substitute teacher.

Marsha is survived by her husband, Mark of Cedar Falls; son, Peter McRoberts of West Des Moines; stepson, Sam (Laura) Newton of Woodbury, Minn.; grandchildren, Jack, Mari, and Noel Newton; sisters-in-law, Deb Newton of Mora, Minn., and Jolyn Newton of Hastings, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepdaughter, Elly Newton; sister and brother-in-law, Gretchen and Roger Phippen; in-laws, Richard and Mary Newton; and brothers-in-law, Kevin and Greg Newton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2026, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in the Larsen Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday before the service. Burial will be immediately following at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls.
