Max Kriz

WATERLOO - Max Kriz, 88, of Waterloo, died on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at his home.
He was born Sept. 25, 1935, in Traer, son of Allen and Marion (Eckhardt) Kriz. He graduated from Traer High School in 1954 and obtained his certification in turbine mechanics from Hawkeye Tech. He served in the United States Marine Corps.
Max married Joan C. Weed on June 10, 1961, at Grace Methodist Church in Waterloo; she died Dec. 13, 2011.
He was a turbine mechanic for Midwest Utility (IPS) for 34 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed working on racecars and spending time with his grandchildren.
Max was a member of the Washburn Moose Lodge, Waterloo Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #764, IBEW Local 288, Waterloo AMVETS Post #19, and Evansdale AMVETS Post #31.
Max is survived by his son, Jeff Kriz of Waterloo; daughters-in-law, Lisa Kriz of Waterloo, and Amy Kriz of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents and wife; a son, Michael Kriz; and two sisters, Lizzy Barge and Peggy Bradley.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites by Evansdale AMVETS Post #31 and US Marine Corps funeral honor guard. I worked with Mike at Hy-Vee and he shared wonderful stories of his dad with me. I hope their reunion in Heaven is as wonderful as they were humans on earth. I will pray for your family during your time of loss.
