Maxine Morrison Obituary
July 10, 1921 - February 15, 2025
Maxine A. Morrison, 103, of Waterloo, passed away at Wellspring Living Health Center at Friendship Village on February 15, 2025.
Maxine was born on July 10, 1921, in Hartford, South Dakota, to Oscar A., and Alvina (Mielke) Bailey. She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1938 and went on to earn her BA in sociology from UCLA in 1942. Maxine married Dr. Robert Earl Morrison on April 8, 1944, at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago; he preceded her in death on March 20, 2009.
For the past 60 years, she has been volunteering: Key 7, North Star Community Services, Girl Scout camping trips, tutoring grade school children, teaching sign language, hosting students from around the world, hosting picnics at the farm, conversational English with students at UNI, delivering library books to senior living centers, reading to adults at daycare programs, letting student nurses interview her about the aging process...
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, James Morrison in 2024; brother, Dr. Robert Bailey; and sister-in-law, Solveig Bailey.
Maxine is survived by her children: Barbara Morrison (Bill R. Douglas) of Clutier, Mary Ann (Jim) Mathis of Elkhart, Betsy Morrison of El Rito, New Mexico, Susan Morrison (Tim Trumpp) and Bill Morrison both of Cedar Falls; and a host of cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Maxine's name to North Star Community Services, Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Cedar Valley Hospice, or Allen College School of Nursing.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Locke on 4th, 1519 West 4th St, Waterloo with Funeral Service to follow at 12 p.m. Burial will be at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.
