REIKO TRUDEAU Obituary

REIKO GRACE TRUDEAU
Reiko Grace Trudeau (née Maeba) passed away peacefully on May 11th, 2024 at home in Thunder Bay, Ontario, after battling cancer for over one year. She was 75 years old at the time of her death.

Reiko was born in Geraldton, Ontario, on September 23rd, 1948, and grew up in a family of four girls and two boys. She attended Lakehead University and graduated with degrees in philosophy and education. Later, she worked as a classroom teacher in Northern Ontario, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories. She also worked for the Government of the Northwest Territories Department of Education where she helped develop a Dene language curriculum and later worked as an instructor in Aurora College's aboriginal language teacher education program. After leaving the public sector, Reiko worked as a managing partner with RT Associates in developing community economic development plans, strategic plans, business plans, and undertaking market research. In 1996, she authored and illustrated a northern lights sketchbook.

Throughout her life Reiko loved the north and defined herself as a 'Northern Girl'. She especially loved her summers spent at Wildgoose Lake where she would explore the lake, entertain at the family cottage, and go blueberry picking with her friends and family members. She was multi-talented, generous, creative, kind to all, and always willing to go the extra mile for those who needed her help.

Reiko is survived by her spouse Robert in Thunder Bay, son Matthew in Toronto (spouse Katie), daughter Miho in Calgary (spouse Greg), sister Miki in Comox (spouse Dan), sister Fran in Marathon, brother Peter (spouse Jeannette) in Toronto, brother-in-law Joseph in Geraldton, sister-in-law Lise in Thunder Bay, and several nephews and nieces. She will be sadly missed by her four grandchildren: Cedar, Orion, Nora, and Kirin. Reiko was predeceased by her mother and father, John Shinichi and Ruth Miho Maeba, sisters Carol and Akiko, brother Paul, niece Jennifer, and brother-in-law Dick.

The Trudeau family would like to thank the staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center for their care and support especially Dr. Ibrahim, Dr. Hagerty and Dr. Bezanson of the Cancer Center, Dr. Garon of the Thunder Bay Aurora Family Clinic, nurses from St. Elizabeth Health Care and personal care workers from Paramed Home Health.

Arrangements have been entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

In lieu of flowers, those who knew Reiko are encouraged to send contributions to the TBRHSF- Northern Cancer Fund.

The interment will be held at Pinegrove Cemetery in Geraldton in August, 2024.
