Ron was a pillar and source of inspiration for the CIATI technology center in Argentina, helping it reach the leading position it enjoys today. His technical recommendations for apple and pear juice production in the Río Negro and Neuquén Valleys helped consolidate Argentine exports to the USA. His openness to exploring the unknown, his curiosity, and his kindness made him truly exceptional. Ron was a wonderful person and an even better friend. We are eternally grateful to Ron and extend our deepest condolences to Kathy and her family on his passing.

Ron was an amazing person, who lived a full life filled with family, adventures and science. I first met him in New Zealand when he was on a sabbatical leave, was present when he married Kathy in Auckland, and enjoyed times with his family in Oregon, be it at the Ashland Shakespearian Festival or out in the snow. My favorite memory of Ron is an early one. Several of us were on a tent camping trip over Easter in the north of the North Island of New Zealand. He was a food scientist, and the look of horror on his face when I excitedly handed over a Cadbury Creme Egg as breakfast on Easter Sunday was something I'll never forget.

Kathy and I were high school friends way back in the late 1950's. When the family visited us in N.Z. we loved Ron's quiet, gentle manner. Sending love to Kathy and family at this sad time.

Ron was a close friend for more than fifty years. When Kjell and I first came to Corvallis in 1968 he not only welcomed us and helped us get started, he also introduced us to his wonderful family in Molalla. He was a fantastic, wise and helpful coleague to Kjell, and Kathy and Ron also lived in Norway with their daughters for a few months. The friendship was life long. Kjell left us i January, and now Ron has passed away. My thanks to him for all he did and the good friend he was, and my warm thoughts to Kathy and Kirsten in this time of sorrow. From Eva

I remember Ron's wonderful smile as we lined up to run road races in Corvallis. I didn't know him beyond those brief encounters but it speaks volumes that I still remember his friendly nature.

I am sorry for your loss of Ron and also glad that he is free from the prison of Alzheimer's. I was so hoping to be at his memorial and see both you, Kathy and Kirsten again. My mom was an Alzheimer's patient and it was difficult to say good-by- i think it is called the long good-by. My prayers are with you all.
With love and appreciation,
Nancy

Ron was a good friend and mentor to me since 1989, when he chaired the search committee that hired me into my first professorial job at Oregon State University. He was kind and patient, and infused his colleagues and students with his passion and scholarly curiosity. The love he felt for Kathy and his daughters was clear as they enjoyed the outdoors and explored the world together. We have lost a gentle and treasured soul, and I send my condolences to his family.
