Theodore "Ted" Henry Gerdes Jr., 90, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Deery Suites, Western Home Communities.
Ted was born July 2, 1935, in Dike, Iowa, to the late Theodore Henry Gerdes, Sr. and Emma Mathilda (Bakker) Gerdes. He graduated from Dike High School. Ted honorably served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserves and later became a member of AMVETS Post #49. Ted married Carol Johnson and attended the Waterloo Barber College. Ted worked as a barber for 56 years retiring at the age of 80. Carol passed away in 2004. Love found Ted once more when he met Mari Akin and they had just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.
Ted is survived by his wife, Mari; his children, Christie (Mark) Potter of Chaska, Minn., and Lori (Tim) Schneider of Waterloo; Mari's children, Mellissa (Justin) Vig of Faith, S.D., and Jason (Katie) Biermann of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and his brother, Norman (Cheryl) Gerdes of Cedar Falls.
The celebration of Ted's life will be at 3 p.m., on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Visitation will be on from 1 p.m. to the time of the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Committal will be at Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 2880, Waterloo, Iowa 50704.

Frank has memories of Ted as a barber and from working with him. I sang in a small group with him at St. John. He was a great guy! And you´ll remember him with love in your hearts! May he rest in peace.
