Winafred Illa Neessen

September 1, 1931-June 30, 2021

CEDAR FALLS-Winafred Illa Neessen, "Winny," 89, of Cedar Falls, died June 30th of natural causes. She was born September 1st, 1931 in Waterloo, to Clarence and Iola Rose (Ackerson) Brennan. She married Thomas F. Neessen, and later divorced. They had 3 sons, Thomas (Nancy), Michael, and Christopher. She had 8 grandchildren: Heather (Bill), Sarah, Blaine, Kori, Drew (Mandy), Tyler, Lindsey, and Brittany (Waylon), and 3 great-grandchildren: Cashton, Landree, and Evei. Winny was beloved by all that met her, with almost everyone calling her "GW". She had a beautiful spirit and loved to travel. She was happiest when spending time with her family, and often travelled to places where she could be with her grandkids. She collected stories, quotes, and jokes to share for a good laugh. Winny worked many years in retail and then became a nanny for a family in Wilmette, IL. where she loved and cared for 2 boys until she retired.

Preceded in death by her sisters Marcella and Patsy, and son Michael. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home assisted the family.

Aunt Winny was an amazing lady who will be missed more then words could ever express. She was my mom at a time of heart ache and uncertainty in my life. I had just lost my oldest brother and did not know if my mom (Marcella, Winny sister) would live. She showed us love our entire lives and I was proud to tell people that she was my Aunt. I learned how to wear makeup by watching her.
As years passed and so did my mom before my children were married. Aunt Winny stepped in as my mom, my kids grandmother and was in the pictures as grandmother to the groom, and then a few years later grandmother of the bride. I loved to listen to her stories she had her own special way of telling the story and my heart hurts because she is gone now. No more vacations together no long phone calls. My heart is happy that you are with your son, sisters, and parents now. Until we meet again I WAS PROUD TO BE WITH YOU ALWAYS. LOVE YOU

Winny and I had a very special bond & we both knew it. We always enjoyed each others company. The last time we hung out, I took her some shrimp cocktail because she loves it. We had a glass of Chardonnay & chatted about old times & laughed a lot too.
She always told me that I was the daughter she never had. I'll love her forever and miss her dearly !!

GW ... always in my heart. She was my mother in law for awhile who I grew to love a lot. That has never changed. We had a bond that we both felt and It was very special. The last time I was visiting her, we laughed, chatted about old times, had a glass of Chardonnay, and enjoyed ourselves as always. She treated me as a daughter and I will miss her immensely. I'll Love you forever, Winny, Jodie

We are so sorry for your great loss. We, too, loved Winny. She was a classy lady and we admired her stories and her love for her children and grandchildren. We, too, will miss her.
