On Sunday, August 17, 2025, Era Jean Stinchcomb of Tallassee, AL, left this earth to meet her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her family. It is with deep sadness that we announce her passing at age 86.
Born on January 29, 1939, in Smith Station, Jean was the middle child of Wallace and Lurlene Cannon. She grew up in Smith Station and later moved to Tallassee. She married James Robert Stinchcomb in 1959 and remained married until his passing in 2012. They raised three children together, Wallace, John, and Teresa.
Jean was a devoted housewife who faithfully cared for her husband and raised their three children with love and dedication. She was affectionately known as Mymaw (pronounced "meh-maw") by her eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and she called everyone “darling” (pronounced "dahhhh-lin"). She loved deeply and had a gentle way of showing it, leaving a lasting impact on everyone around her. Above all, she showed and shared the love of the Lord in her daily life, reflecting her faith through kindness, patience, and grace.
Jean is survived by her children, Wallace (Cindy) Rayfield, John (Mikki) Stinchcomb and Teresa (Mickey) James; brother, Richard Wallace Cannon Jr. and sister-in-law, Pauline Nelson; grandchildren, Hunter Rayfield, Alex Rayfield, Lauren (Jeremy) Knight, Laura James Ehrhart, Tommy (Amber) James Jr., Haley (Chase) Sparks, Ryder (Caroline) Stinchcomb, Ethan (Kathryn) Stinchcomb and ten great-grandchildren, Allison and Morgan Ehrhart, Madelyn, Tyler, and Abigail James, Charlie and Jake Sparks, Cameron and Alexis Knight and Teddy Stinchcomb.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Stinchcomb; parents, Wallace and Lurlene Cannon and sister, Shirley Prickett.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, August 19, 2025, from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Jeffcoat Funeral Home Chapel, 255 Friendship Rd, Tallassee, AL 36078. After the service, the family will gather at the Rayfield’s home, 434 Langley St., Tallassee, AL 36078.
Though we grieve her loss here on earth, we take comfort in knowing she is dancing on the streets of gold with the love of her life. Jean’s legacy of family, love, and faith will live on in all who knew her.
