Mr. Robert Jerome Southern, a resident of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at the age of 78. He was Born on January 28, 1947, in Chadron, Nebraska, to Ralph and Jessie Mae Mercer Southern.
As a skilled model maker for the Department of Defense, his work epitomized the highest standards of excellence, reflecting his intelligence and commitment to his profession. He attended John Patterson Technical College where he obtained an associate's degree as a machine mechanic. He then worked for the Civil Service at Fort Eustis, Virginia, retiring in 2010 after forty years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Wetumpka, Alabama.
Robert was known for his wonderful personality- smart, special, and always eager to share a kind word. He had a passion for travel and cherished the many cruises he embarked on throughout his life. Robert also found joy in simpler pleasures, including playing cards every Tuesday at the Tallassee Senior Center, along with a love for farming and caring for cows.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Ouida Sue Southern; his son, Robert O'Neal Southern; sisters, Janet Treat and Darlene Davis (Alan); sister-in-law, Karen Southern; step-daughter, Dawn Jaworowski (Bryan Seigneur); as well as eight step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Robert’s heart, however, paints a picture of bittersweet remembrance, as he joins those who departed before him. He is reunited with his wife, Mary K. Southern, and his parents, Ralph and Jessie Mae Southern, as well as his brother, Myron Southern.
The family will receive friends on May 21, 2025, at 9:00AM followed by a Mass at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, located at 545 White Road, Wetumpka, AL 36092. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Tallassee, Alabama.
