Stephen Schleicher Obituary

Watertown, WI - Stephen L. Schleicher, 58, of Watertown, passed away at home on Friday, January 19, 2024 due to mental health exacerbated by long term Covid.

Stephen Lloyd Schleicher was born on September 14, 1965 to James and Joan (nee Wiley) at St. Mary's Hospital in Watertown, WI. Steve earned his Masters Degree in Education and began his teaching career at Park View Middle School in Mukwonago, WI. He then moved to his hometown of Watertown and taught Government at Watertown High School for 25 years where he also coached the Watertown Gosling football and wrestling teams. His passion for teaching, coaching and mentoring impacted the lives of many. A favorite recent class, Super Heroes & Social Issues, emphasized his passion for seeing his students find the joy of learning as he did. In addition to teaching and coaching, Steve enjoyed acting and performing and especially excelled in voice acting.

His many interests include learning, reading, grilling out and cooking, playing cards, watching the Packers and Badgers and spending time with his beloved dog, Yogi.

Steve's pride and joy was his family. He enjoyed coaching his boys in their many sports over the years and he especially loved watching and playing with his grandchildren.

His infectious laugh and kind heart will be forever missed.

He is survived by his wife Kathy Schleicher of Watertown; three children: Jacob (Sydney) Schleicher of Arbor Vitae, Joe (Rachel Whipple) Schleicher of Brownsville, TX, Katie (Johnston Freeman) Schleicher of La Crosse; two grandchildren: Sadie Schleicher, Cody Schleicher; siblings: Michele Iserman of Taylors, SC, Tim (Diane) Schleicher of Sullivan, Daniel (Donna) Schleicher of Watertown; mother-in-law, Kay Ehlinger of Watertown; sister-in-law, Molly (Greg) Huben; brothers-in-law: Jerry (Kerry) Ehlinger, John (Teri) Ehlinger; as well as other relatives and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Schleicher in infancy; father-in-law, Dr. William Ehlinger; nephew, Michael Schleicher and beloved dog, Yogi.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Hafemeister Funeral Home, Watertown, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be kindly accepted to create a scholarship fund in Steve's memory. Online condolences may be left at www.HafemeisterFH.com.
