GERALDINE ANN MCEACHERN
Geraldine Ann (Harris) McEachern was born July 25, 1939, to Ralph Leroy and Cleo Ann (Nichols) Harris in Wellington. Geraldine enjoyed growing up in rural Sumner County, attending Olive Branch school, located a few miles from her home on Highway 49. Geraldine graduated from Wellington High School in 1957.
During her younger years, Geraldine was active with 4-H. She built her entire bedroom suite, headboard, dresser, nightstand, and bookshelf. She participated in the style review, modeling clothes she had made. She was most proud of her reign as a Cherry Pie Champion during several years of 4-H fairs. This reigned was passed to her sister after she aged out. Her recipe is proudly displayed in her daughter's homes. Granddaughter Mary Grace Fink has mastered her recipe.
On December 18, 1958, she met Melvin Dean "Pud" McEachern at the American Legion Carnival. After a short courtship, Pud and Geri eloped on January 20, 1959. A simple ceremony with Cy Roths and Tudy Sneed as witnesses. Blessings of this marriage include Debbie (Larry) Norris, John McEachern, Judi (Patrick) Fink, and Heidi (Todd) Benway. They were also blessed with 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
In 1991, Geraldine began her work in the Register of Deeds Office as a clerk. She served under Delma Walcher and Lois Stinson. In 1995, she was appointed as Sumner County Register of Deeds. She served until her retirement on October 1, 2003.
Her hobbies included playing BINGO. She spent a lot of time at the American Legion, VFW, and belonged to many BINGO groups. Most recently, she was known to call the children to let them know what time Tracker, Yellowstone, or other series were on. Then she would call to see if you watched it. She also loved Hallmark movies and HGTV. She threatened to have a tiny home built and travel from daughter to daughter's home to live in the backyard. Her most cherished was her family. She loved spending time with the kids/grandkids and loved knowing what their most recent activity included.
She always called Wellington home, never meeting a stranger. She has always enjoyed meeting new people, creating many memories, and forming lifelong relationships.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, one grandson, Jaxson Leroy McEachern, her parents, and two brothers, Gerald Ralph Harris (twin) and Allen Leroy Harris.
She is survived by her 4 children, 3 sons-in-law, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, sister Carol Bennett of Sedgwick, and many nieces and nephews who all hold a special place in her heart.
