Daniel Dean Loshbaugh
August 21, 1951 – July 4, 2024
Woodinville, WA
(formerly of Wenatchee, WA)
Daniel Dean Loshbaugh passed away after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his grandchildren: granddaughter, Kaia (16), and grandson, Baker (12); daughter-in-law, Chelsea; son, Gabriel; and wife of 50 years, Melodee. With the courage of a warrior, Dan exercised his right to die with dignity. He went out on his own terms on Independence Day! Out with a bang!
Dan was preceded in death and reunited with his beloved son, Brock Loshbaugh, who was waiting in the wings for his dad's arrival. Eagle Scout, U.S. Army Reservist, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Lifetime member, Wenatchee Corvette Board Member, Woodinville, WA, business owner/entrepreneur and most importantly, member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 39 years, where he was a role model for many in the recovery community. He lived a life of service.
Avid outdoorsman and big game hunter who travelled all across the Pacific Northwest following his true passion. Dan was born in Spokane, WA, on August 21, 1951. He grew up in Chattaroy, WA, and graduated from Riverside High School in 1969. In 2004, Dan along with his wife and son, founded Brock's Academy in Woodinville. As CFO of the company, his dogged vision of what the school could become he grew the organization from three to 65 employees with a school in Woodinville, and one in University Place. Over the last 20 plus years his contribution has impacted the lives of hundreds of families and children across the state of Washington..He is leaving behind a legacy in education, especially in the special needs community that will carry on for years to come.
Dan knew how to have fun! He was a man that loved his big boy toys. He was a car guy and loved polishing and driving his Corvettes, taking friends out on his boat on the Columbia River and road-tripping in his RV. He never lost his ability to play like a kid. People were attracted to his magnetic personality and fun kid energy. He left very little gas in the tank when he left! Dan was an Eagle Scout through and through. He was an individual with integrity and a strong moral core. He was also not afraid to speak his mind when he came across an injustice. Dan believed in the law of attraction and practiced it every day. He was strong willed, determined, and when he set his mind on a goal you better get out of the way because one way or other, it was going to happen. Dan's spiritual path followed the traditions of the Native American Indians. He found his God in the mountains. On his journey, he experienced several profound vision quest experiences that served to strengthen his belief in a higher power or energy recognizing that this human experience was just a brief moment in time.
Athlete, Coach and Mentor who cared deeply for children's success. Many Woodinville locals knew him as Dano, a Seattle Seahawks 22-year season ticket holder, Go Hawks. Dan rarely missed a game. With four seats, he delighted in taking buddies and employees to games. He always wore the full Seahawks garb, would arrive early and stay late.He was also a die-hard Seattle Mariners fan who loved watching "The Kid" in his prime. Including being in attendance for Game 5 of 1995 Divisional Playoff series against the Yankees when Edgar hit The Double and we all watched #24 wheel around those bases!
Dan loved his grandchildren fiercely and cherished spending time with them at baseball games, his ranch and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

So sorry for your loss, I met Dan in 2007 when I started going to the Miracle Ranch Men's retreat. many years we would meet for breakfast and play golf on Friday mornings on our way to the retreat. Always looked forward to his infectious smile and welcoming laugh and competing with KMG on how may members each group brought (Dan cheated when he brought Wenatchee guys, called it KMG east). I will miss his good nature and will always remember what he taught me in sobriety and life.

Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to meet Dan in person. However, I had several conversations with him and Melodee. He along with Melodess was a way shower for others. In showing the way, they each exhibited a beautiful energy and outlook on life and continue to be an inspiration on how to live a beautiful, full, courageous life.

My Grandpa taught me what to look for in a man. He taught me what a gentleman is and does. He also taught me to never back down, even if you feel like it is too much work. He said that he saw my call to always fight injustice and to stand up for myself. That sometimes it is okay to be scared, to fear the outcome. But if you work hard enough and fight, in the long run you will receive what you worked for. He was a huge believer in manifestation, which he also taught me to do.

I will always remember his generous spirit. The gift of hang gliding in Jackson Hole with Dan and Mel was a wonderfully fun time Dan gifted to me. Mel and I had quite the adventure one time, while Dan wanted to go twice!! I know you are soaring free with Brock now, Dan. I feel blessed to have known you for so many years and I´m grateful you shared your story with me and my daughter. We are better for your example of how to live and enjoy life and friends with your commitment to sobriety, supporting others, manifesting success for kids, and loving your family with all your heart. Thank you for sharing and caring, till we meet again.

I think my favorite memory of Dan is when he came to the Woodinville campus and we were in the process of an expansion. Each time he came he was so excited to see the progress. It was like watching a child get excited at Christmas time. I loved watching him and Dr. Mel together when he would ask"have you seen my girlfriend." I hope one day I can aspire to this type of commitment in my own marriage. We miss you Dan.

My dad and him were friends from AA and when my dad passed from cancer Dan showed up to his celebration of life and gave me the best stories of them together. I know they are both racing fast cars and arguing which was better. A BMW or a corvette. My thoughts go out to the family and friends.
