Jane Van Sickle Obituary

Jane Blomquist Van Sickle
June 1, 1933 - July 13, 2025
"How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard" - A.A. Milne.
Jane Van Sickle, 92, peacefully left us on July 13th, 2025 in Wenatchee, Washington, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on June 1st, 1933, to Fran and Elaine Blomquist, Jane's life soon took root in Caldwell, Idaho. There, she became a lover of the outdoors, spending her youth on horseback and creating lifelong friendships, as she continued to do throughout her life.
Jane was a proud alumna of the University of Idaho. She not only excelled in her academics but also served as president of the Delta Gamma sorority. With her genuine smile, sense of humor and zest for life, she was always surrounded by an amazing circle of friends.
After earning her Master of Library Science from the University of Washington, Jane moved to Wenatchee, WA with her four children, working as the NCW Libraries Regional Director and Children's Librarian. She found immense joy in connecting with smaller communities, reading to children, putting on puppet shows, and being surrounded by the magic of books. It was through these connections that she met and married Fred Van Sickle, with whom she shared her life for the next 49 years.
The family's move to Waterville embraced Jane's love for small-town life and close-knit communities. She was an active member of P.E.O., a devoted spectator at her children's sporting events, and a light in her community. Her spirit of generosity shone through her tireless volunteering, always lending a hand wherever needed.
Jane and Fred later made their homes in Wenatchee and Spokane, biking and enjoying lake life on Lake Pend Oreille and Lake Chelan. Jane's commitment to service never wavered. She continued to volunteer her time with the library, the hospital, the animal shelter, Meals on Wheels, and, true to her Delta Gamma spirit, Service for Sight.
Jane's legacy lives on through her four beloved children and nine grandchildren: Rob (Bealinda) Tidd of East Wenatchee; Scott (Lisa) Tidd of Chelan, and their two boys, Skyler and Adam; Steve (Tina) Tidd of Wenatchee, and their children, Renee, Connor, Tawnee, and Logan; and her daughter Nancy (Matt) Buxton of Sun Valley, Idaho, and their three children, Ike, Daisy, and Rabbit.
Those of you who loved Jane know she would only ask that you offer an act of kindness, plant a flower or a tree, and enjoy nature in remembrance of her.

Yesterday

A Friend for 50 years starting in Waterville. Many happy memories during supper club and later supper sisters. Jane was an amazing person we all loved. She once said she was probably riding her bike past the hospital in Caldwell when I was born. Hope that was true.
