John Darrell Pock
July 10, 1951 – April 15, 2024
John Darrell Pock, "Darrell", of Soap Lake, WA, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024, at the age of 72.
Darrell was born on July 10, 1951, in Omak, WA, to Alfred and Ferne Pock. He graduated from Washington State University in 1978, with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology. After moving to Ephrata, WA, he started his professional career at the Grant County Public Utility District (PUD) as a wildlife biologist, where he worked to protect the local wildlife and preserve cultural resources. His extensive knowledge and expertise were relied upon for many important programs throughout his 35 year career, up until his retirement from the PUD in 2013.
His children remember him as a loving and dedicated father who encouraged them to work hard to reach their goals. Darrell was passionate about hunting, shooting, hiking and all things wildlife. He had an adventurous personality and loved being outdoors exploring different areas around eastern Washington. He lived life by "always taking the backroads" and exploring the path less traveled. Darrell loved sharing memorable stories and adventures as well as his wildlife knowledge with others. He was also an avid reader who enjoyed science fiction, a talented artist, a proficient gardener and a sought after craftsman highly skilled in woodwork and furniture refinishing.
Darrell is survived by his children: Jada Wang of Seattle, WA, and Jasmyn Blancaflor of Seattle, WA; grandchildren: Cooper, Hana and Rei of Seattle, WA; siblings: Lynnell McFarland of Spokane Valley, WA, Shannon Pock of Omak, WA, and LaKaye Petersen of Spokane Valley, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents: John Alfred Pock and Ferne Mae Pock (Carpenter) of Omak, WA.
Thank you to all the family members and friends as well as Grace Castillo of Fred's Haven Adult Family Home who provided care and support throughout the last few weeks.
There will be no Funeral or Burial Services.

I went to "go to work with your parent" day when I was in grade school. My dad, Craig Jorgensen, an electrical engineer at the PUD, worked with Darrell. When his job and meetings proved to be beyond humanly possible boring, he sent me with Darrell who was going to check out an area of land for the PUD to see if it was suitable and see if there were any artifacts or endangered species that would need identifying before they did something (maybe built a substation???) Anyway, we rode out in this cool old truck with the windows down. Darrell taught me several different plant species. One of which was the fiddleneck flower. Every time I'm out weeding, I always see that pokey but pretty flower and think of our field trip. My parents blame my love of botany and foraging on that trip. And it very well may be. They have Darrel to thank when they ask me, "What weeds are you feeding us today?"
Later in life, I inherited two of my Grandma's side tables, which Darrell beautifully refinished for me. They are still in daily use.
As a kid, it was always exciting when he would stop by. He would tell some exciting stories! What a good guy.
I am sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to Jada and Jazzy, who I used to play with when we were teeny tiny, and the rest of the family. His passing certainly leaves the world a little less bright.
P.S. all I remember from the engineer part of the work day are a bunch of lines with random zig-zags and boxes. Thanks Darrell, wherever you are, for saving me!

Darrell and I had many bow hunting trips over several years. We had great times together with lots of good memories. We both liked woodworking and when needed we would help each other. Darrell could always be counted on. He was a good friend and a wonderful human being. I will miss him.
