Joseph Creger Obituary

In Loving Memory of Joseph Eugene Creger.
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved son and brother, Joe Creger, who left this world peacefully at home while listening to a treasured recording of his mother singing. He loved her voice and it brought him great comfort.
Born on April 2, 1965, in Jackson, CA, Joe was the oldest of five children, growing up with four fiercely protective sisters who adored him. Though developmentally disabled, he was wickedly smart, clever, and fiercely spirited. His resilience and humor impacted the lives of those around him in countless ways.
In 1986, Joe graduated from high school to a standing ovation, a testament to his determination and the love of those who supported him and benefited from his unique personality. He embraced independence for several years, carving out a life filled with curiosity and unwavering enthusiasm for the things he loved. His world was brightened by his treasured pet, Pete's Dragon, his vast collection of stuffed animals, outings with friends and family, an endless stream of cartoons, and the music that always brought him happiness.
His family will forever be grateful for the lessons he taught them: insights into the lives, strengths, and undeniable purpose of individuals with developmental disabilities. He made an indelible mark on their hearts, and they will miss him dearly.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the remarkable staff at Assisted Residential Services (ARS) in Spokane, who provided Joe with a loving home, exceptional care, and the dignity and respect he so deserved. Their compassion made all the difference in his life, and for that, we are eternally thankful.
Joe was a gift to this world, and though he is no longer with us, his light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who loved him.
Joe was preceded in death by his extraordinary mother, Patricia Theresa Creger. He is survived by his father, Henry Donnelly Creger; his four sisters, Shannon B. Romer (Ted), Cara F. Creger, Julie M. Lester (Rich), and Meghan C. Swardstrom (Mark); and his nieces, Ciara Romer, Alexandra Lester, Jessica Lester, Ryan Swardstrom; and his nephew, Owen Swardstrom. He is also survived by his Uncle, Robin Creger (Linda) and several wonderful cousins.
A private celebration of his life was held with family, but please raise a glass (of Dr. Pepper with extra ice) to Joe Creger, the biggest and best Stude (stud/dude) of them all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northwest Justice Project (NPJ) in his memory. https://nwjustice.org/donate.
