Joseph Weddle Obituary

Joseph Leland Weddle, M.D.
March 5, 1939 - April 11, 2025
Dr. Joseph Leland Weddle, 86, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, in Boise, Idaho.
Born on March 5, 1939, in Tonasket, Washington, Joe was the third of six children raised on his family's apple and cherry orchards. From an early age, he felt called to a life of service, ultimately choosing the path of medicine. He graduated from Northwestern University Medical School and went on to serve communities across Puerto Rico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Kansas, and Washington, specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Joe married Glenna Weddle in 1960. Together, they had one daughter and adopted two children during their time in Puerto Rico. Following Glenna's tragic passing in 1970, Joe met and married Mary Ellen (Alfrey) Weddle in 1971. He adopted her five children, and they had a son together, building a joyful family of eleven.
A man of deep Christian faith, Joe's life was filled with kindness, purpose, and a drive to make the world better. His passions included woodworking, gardening, camping, biking, baking (especially cinnamon rolls and peanut brittle), and international mission work - most notably helping establish a school for children with disabilities in Tonga.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Ellen Weddle and children, Kathryn (Scott) Nelson, Colleen (Marty) Weddle-Radabaugh, Michael (Lorena) Weddle, Susan (John) Bozarth, Linda (Rick) Doehle, Sharon (Ron) Vergine, Philip Weddle, Steven (Melanie) Weddle. He is also survived by his siblings, Betty Jean Bair, Norman (Diana) Weddle, and Molly Lauderdale; and 26 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Glenna Weddle; parents, Harvey Weddle and Mary Beth (Verbeck) Weddle; daughter, Mary Louise Weddle; grandson, Timothy Joseph Musil; and brothers, Donald Weddle and Gerald Weddle.
There will be a Celebration of Life on August 1, 2025, 11 a.m., at Ten Mile Christian Church, 3500 W Franklin Rd, Meridian, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to YWAM Montana 99for1Ukraine, (https://giving.ywammontana.org/support) or a charity of your choice, in honor of Joe's lifelong dedication to missions.
