Mr. Jesse Beckett was born on February 3, 1939, to the late Reverend Stephen and Annie (Smalls) Beckett in Hampton, South Carolina. Jesse was educated in the South Carolina School System. As a young boy, Jesse attended Sandhill Baptist Church, where he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. His grandfather was a great influence too him, and he often enjoyed taking long walks in the countryside with his grandfather.
At an early age, Jesse married the late, Ada Belle (Grant) Beckett. To this union, were born four (4) children, Annie Lee Beckett (deceased), Charles Emmanuel Beckett, Louvina "Lucy" Beckett, and Cathy Marie Beckett Alexander (Tarry).
They moved from South Carolina to
Springfield, Massachusetts, in the late 1950's for job opportunities. Jesse worked for the Spalding Company, making basketballs and golf balls. Later, he worked for the Moore Drop Forge Corporation, (later becoming the Danaher Corporation), where he made an assortment of tools especially wrenches until he retired after 30+ years. Once he retired, he continued his hobby of long daily walks, which was truly his passion. Jesse was also a skilled carpenter always fixing things around the house.
For many years, Jesse grew fruit and vegetables in his multiple gardens. He loved growing and sharing food and he also loved cooking and grilling for his children and grandchildren while watching them swim in his pool. He was a quiet man with a gentle spirit.
Since February 2024, Jesse has lived in Stone Mountain, Georgia, with his daughter, Lucy, near some of his grandchildren. He attended the First Norman Grove Baptist Church, where he met many new friends who became his extended family. The Lord called Jesse home on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
He leaves to cherish his memories six (6) grandchildren, Shalea Goldson (Andre), Benjamin "Tahni" Beckett (deceased) (Talitha), Taniyah Quartey (Randy), Tanaisha Pearson, Sydni Beckett, and Alexsys Alexander; and nine (9) great-grandchildren, Briahna Goldson, Jadae Goldson, Tahsim Beckett (deceased), Tylahn Beckett, Christian Goldson, Benjamin "BJ" Beckett, Liam Pearson, Ezekiel Quartey, and Eliana Belle Quartey. Jesse Beckett had four (4) sisters, Prophetess Thelma "Tiny" (Shelton), and three (3) of them have preceded him in death, Ethel Mae (Murray), Eula (Oregon), and Juanita (Michael). He had three (3) brothers, all who also preceded him in death, Eugene, Stephen, and Herbert. He also had a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will continue to truly love and cherish him, and he will be sorely missed.
