Lyle Haney Obituary
Lyle Marvin Haney, 91, of West Plains, Mo., passed away, Friday, Sept. 26, at Dogwood Greenhouse. He was born in Waukegan, Ill., Jan. 3, 1934, to Stanley and Louise Henke Haney Sr.
He was married to his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Sylvia Mae Landgren, in Rockford, Ill., on June 27, 1953. Together they had two daughters, Roberta and Susan.
Lyle's love for the Ozarks captured his heart as a young man of 16, when he spent a summer on a farm in Lanton, purchased by his father. It was not until he was 40 that he set his sights on returning to the Ozarks to start a new life on 20 acres outside of West Plains. This would be his cherished home for the rest of his days. He loved his life in the country and his many ventures with raising gardens and farm animals. One of his most cherished joys was working with his brother Gerry, building a log cabin and raising goats. We are especially grateful to Shiana and Jamie of the West Vue Greenhouse for sharing their family of goats with Lyle.
In many ways, Lyle was a Renaissance man. By definition, this is "one who is skilled and knowledgeable in many different fields, with intellectual curiosity and creative pursuits." From a very early age, he was fascinated with science and electronics. This led to a career at G.C. Electronics, Rockford, where he designed and engineered antennas. Along with his nephew Bob Haney, he owned and operated Industrial Electronic Controls in Rockford. He also authored a book on antenna design.
Lyle loved to design and build with his own hands. He built several houses and his own home.
For many years, following his move to West Plains, Lyle worked for Grisham Properties in property development projects including Quail Run and Woodridge Estates. The Grisham family was dear to him and he often spoke fondly of their friendship.
He also filled his home with music and art, and enjoyed philosophic discussions. Lyle loved to learn and read many books about physics, electronics and space. He had a great appreciation for technology. He always had the latest in computers, tablets, Alexa, etc. He embraced the future and all its possibilities.
He is survived by two daughters Roberta (Rick) Aleshire and Susan (Robert) Rogers; two brothers Stanley (Kay) Haney and Gerald (Sophie) Haney; granddaughters, Sarah (Jake) Morgan, Laura Aleshire and Kelsey (Isabelle Hamilton) Rogers; great-grandchildren Jonas Morgan, Max Morgan, Emersen Matel, Harper Matel, and Dante Aleshire; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Lyle is preceded in death by his wife Sylvie Mae Haney, parents Stanley and Louise Haney, brother Melvin (Wilma) Haney, sister Faye (Gil) Skovsted and nephew (Bob Haney).
Many years ago, Lyle decided to donate his body for research in the hopes that his contribution would lead to the benefit of others. This has been done to honor his wishes.
