John Lupton Obituary

John Mather Lupton III
John Mather Lupton III – founder of PCa Blue, a prostate cancer awareness organization, and a former member of the Georgia House of Representatives – died on Thursday, March 30 in Washington, D.C., following a battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.
John, the son of John and Mavis Lupton, was born on June 24, 1947 in Connecticut. His father was a Connecticut state senator. John attended Weston public schools, and then Staples High School in Westport, where he was elected president of the Class of 1966. John remained "class president for life," helping to organize reunions and raising funds for gifts to the school. John went on to attend the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
John spent over 25 years in Atlanta, beginning his career in advertising and then combining that experience with his love of sports in a career in sports marketing. His work allowed him to travel the world for the Olympic Games and other sporting events. Following in his father's footsteps, John served five terms in the Georgia House of Representatives. After moving back to Westport, John served as director of the Westport Historical Society. Late in his life, John founded PCa Blue, which promotes prostate cancer awareness and education through blues music.
John is survived by his daughter, Lallie; his son, John (Caitlin); and his siblings, Nan, Penny (Roger), Deborah, and Josiah.
His children remember their father as "remarkably outgoing and optimistic, and an incredibly dedicated father."
A memorial service will be held at Christ & Holy Trinity Church in Westport, Connecticut, on June 10.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Lupton's name can be made to PCa Blue (https://pcablue.org/donate).

Upon hearing the news about Joe Liberman today, it brought back memories of Johno Lupton. I was in Westport CN for my senior year in high school @ Staples HS. I remember him well. I googled Johno, and saddened, but thankful that we were friends for a short time.

During my tenure as the Westport News Sports Editor, John worked for me, and he was a dedicated and nice man, who I enjoyed knowing. I was shocked to hear he's no longer with us, and I wish cancer was cured at least 40 years ago. This dreaded disease has taken to many lives and caused too much pain to those who suffer from it.

My condolences to Lallie and John. I knew John over 30 years and was the first person i met in Atlanta after moving from Chicago. In 2000 he joined a group of us in Sydney for the Olympics and we shared a wonderful meal together at Casa Italia. He will be missed.

Just learned of John's passing wanted to extend our deepest sympathy to his devoted family. 'Lupto' as we fondly called him was one of the most upbeat and supportive people we have ever had the pleasure of calling friend. His positive attitude and infectious laugh will be with us forever.
