Anna Johnson Obituary
Anna Marie Johnson, 92, of Columbia City, passed away at 8:17 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at her home.
Born on February 6, 1933, in Etna, Troy Township, Whitley County, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Donald G. and Esther Marie (Jagger) Deeter. She attended Larwill Elementary School and graduated from Larwill High School in 1951.
On December 6, 1952, she married the love of her life, James L. Johnson. During Jim's military service, they lived in California and Oklahoma. Returning to the area, they lived in Ormas before purchasing the family farm in 1965. Jim died April 3, 2020.
Anna started her work career at Weatherhead, Columbia City. After the children were at school, she went to work for food services at Columbia City High School, where she worked for 35 years.
She enjoyed baking for her family and for church functions. Everybody liked her yeast rolls and angel food cake. A very competitive player, she enjoyed a game of cards or a board game. She could be ornery and very sassy! In the summers, she was often found mowing the grass of their farm home.
She enjoyed traveling with Jim, and on their 50th anniversary, they took an Alaskan cruise, which she found very exciting. Anna was very active until her later years, volunteering throughout the community. A member of Troy Presbyterian Church, she managed their Family Life Center and assisted wherever needed. She faithfully delivered Meals on Wheels to local seniors. She was lovingly referred to as "Grandma Moon" by the grand and great-grandkids.
She was a season ticket holder for the Columbia City boys' basketball games before her and Jim had their children. Later she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play multiple sports. At home, she continued her love of sports watching televised baseball, basketball, and softball games.
Anna is survived by her children, Brent D. Johnson of Columbia City and Jaima (Rex) Musselman of Noblesville; grandchildren, Traver Johnson, Tyler (Savanna) Johnson, Kasey (Cory) Sherer, Derek (Madison) Foresman, Carly (Jon) Stoffel, Darby (Reilly) Schlosser; Drew Musselman and Jeffrey Musselman; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Graham, Sebastian, Brielle, Reece, Parker, Callum, and Annie James.
Additionally, she was preceded in death by a son, Todd Johnson; sisters, Lenore Webster, Marjorie Sewell, and Doris Boggs; and brothers, Ansel Deeter and Dwight Deeter.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, (September 20th), at Smith & Sons Funeral Home. Burial is at Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. Visitation is from 12 Noon until the service at the funeral home.
