Bernice Wood-Fry Obituary

Bernice L. Wood-Fry, 94, of Columbia City, Indiana passed away Thursday, May 29, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Born March 6, 1931, in Columbia City, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late John and Audrey (Egolf) Jagger. She graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1949. On June 25, 1949, she married Dale D. Wood, who then passed away on December 2, 2000. She then married Delmer E. Fry on July 26, 2002, and he passed away on June 9, 2021. Bernice was a homemaker, along with working at United Telephone Co. for nine months and then worked at Precision Plastics for 29 years before retiring in 1991. Bernice was a lifelong resident of Whitley County, wintering in Florida from 1991-2000 and then was a resident of Florida from 2002-2018. She then returned to Columbia City permanently. She was a member of the First Church of God and a past member of Blue River Community Church. She was also a member of the Whitley Co. DAR and attended Winter Haven Christian Church, while in Florida. Bernice's mission once she moved back to Columbia City from Florida was to spread the love of Jesus through her crocheting of blankets, towels and jar grippers. Bernice loved music, reading devotionals and spending time with family and friends. Her family was her world. In her younger years when her children were growing up she gardened and canned food for her family. In later years she was able to master her smart phone, where she texted family and friends daily with creative emojis added. Bernice is survived by her children, Bruce Wood, Terry Wood, Randy (Beverly) Wood, Cathy (David) Gardner, and Bryan Wood; stepson, Steven Fry; 22 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; 1 step grandson; and 1 step great grandson; sister, DeMaris Valjack; sisters-in-law, Brenda Keeling, Lola Wood, and Patsy Williams. Along with her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Talynn Wood; great grandson, Damien Clymer; brothers, Lyman Jagger, Harold "Eugene" Jagger, Marshall (Catherine) Jagger, Gerald (Grace and MaraLee) Jagger, and J. Devon (Maxine) Jagger; daughters-in-law, Linda Wood, Pam Wood, Carol Wood, and Jo Ellen Wood. The family would like to thank Parkview Hospice along with Danielle (nurse), Jasmine (aide), Karrie (social worker), Michael (pastor), Carl (pharmacy) for the excellent care they provided to Bernice. Visitation will be 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, with Funeral Service at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 2, 2025, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
