Carol Conte Obituary

Carol Sue Conte, 86, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lima, Ohio, on December 29, 1938, Carol was the daughter of Walter and Mary (Auer) Stippich. She graduated from St. Gerard High School in 1956 and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Saint Francis College in 1960. On June 11, 1960, she married the love of her life, Samuel Conte, who preceded her in death in May 2021. Carol served proudly as a senior member in the Civil Air Patrol, where she worked as an administrative, personnel, and testing officer. She joined in order to spend more time with her husband and two of her sons who were active CAP members but was rewarded with many lifelong friends as she contributed to the youth development mission. Over 25 years, she worked part-time at McDonald's, where her work ethic was appreciated by countless customers, and the sight of her 70's-era Volkswagen bus in the parking lot added a smile to many. In fact, that van became a part of her image. Some people thought she used to be a hippie. She was not, but she did enjoy people flashing her the peace sign. A lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Carol shared her faith through music as part of the church choir. She was also an active member of the Northeast Indiana Sports Car Club participating in rallies, tours, and parties and working the rallies and autocrosses. Above all, Carol cherished time spent with her family. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, creating memories filled with laughter and love. She is survived by her children, Steve (Kim) Conte, Peter (Paulette) Conte, and Michele Allen; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam; son, Christopher; four brothers; and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control or Stillwater Hospice.
